Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/2175959\">stated<\/a> in an interview published by national media on Friday that Russia is open to proposals that are in line with <strong>&#8220;realities on the ground<\/strong>.<strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Russian Federation is<strong> ready to listen to any reasonable proposals and ideas<\/strong> that are in line with the goals set by the Russian president and meet the \u2018realities on the ground\u2019,&#8221; Ryabkov said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this stage, it is more important to what extent Washington is able to influence the decisions of the Kyiv regime and its European sponsors, <strong>who still dream of a \u2018strategic defeat\u2019 of Russia<\/strong>,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/churchmoscow.jpg?itok=xo7vsQL2\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/churchmoscow.jpg?itok=xo7vsQL2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"7b5dd19a-38c5-483a-9144-5070c2fe90a0\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/churchmoscow.jpg?itok=xo7vsQL2\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>via Reuters<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The remarks suggest that the Kremlin is <strong>responding positively and openly to recent overtures initiated by Washington<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated the need to put forward new ideas toward a settlement, and we are ready to listen to them if this constitutes the mentioned &#8216;efforts&#8217; of the Americans,&#8221; Ryabkov <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/2175959\">continued<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We remain open to dialogue with Washington, but that <strong>does not mean that we will abandon our fundamental positions<\/strong>,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Time is working against Ukraine and its Western backers in Europe, &#8220;something they will have to reckon with,&#8221; Ryabkov additionally pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump has this summer signaled that his outlook on Ukraine&#8217;s chances on the battlefield may have softened or changed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/world-nation\/story\/2026-08-16\/trump-told-zelensky-you-dont-have-cards-then-ukraine-took-war-to-russia\">of late<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>By the time Trump and Zelensky met at a NATO summit in July, the American president said the Ukrainian leader <strong>had \u201cbeen very effective\u201d in the war<\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019ve actually developed a good relationship,\u201d Trump added.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But as Ukraine\u2019s strikes have intensified, so have Russia\u2019s \u2014 and Kyiv faces major challenges in defending against them because of shortages of American Patriot air defense missiles.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Zelensky, for his part, has been explicit that the new long-range strikes are meant to force Moscow to the negotiating table under conditions that favor Kiev.<\/p>\n<p>The LA Times has recently outlined significant developments this summer, which are part of this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/world-nation\/story\/2026-08-16\/trump-told-zelensky-you-dont-have-cards-then-ukraine-took-war-to-russia\">risky strategy<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>As part of the campaign against oil infrastructure, Kyiv said it hit Russia\u2019s largest oil refinery, more than 1,550 miles from Ukraine.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Kyiv has also targeted defense manufacturing centers. It hit a factory making navigation systems multiple times, including with its own Flamingo missile.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>In July and August, Ukraine struck warehouses for major Russian online retailer Wildberries. Kyiv said the company helps supply the Russian military.
