{"id":655294,"date":"2026-08-21T00:05:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T00:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=655294"},"modified":"2026-08-21T00:05:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T00:05:00","slug":"poll-shows-voters-reject-us-israel-military-integration-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=655294","title":{"rendered":"Poll Shows Voters Reject US-Israel Military Integration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Poll Shows Voters Reject US-Israel Military Integration<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/poll-us-israel-military-integration\"><em>Authored by Brett Wilkins via Common Dreams<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A new poll of US voters published this week offers a warning for congressional lawmakers backing a plan to deepen military ties between the\u00a0United States\u00a0and Israel, finding that a clear majority of voters oppose the proposal\u2014which some critics have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/senate-stalls-ndaa-with-major-israel-plan-critics-call-treason\" target=\"_blank\">called<\/a>\u00a0<strong>&#8220;treasonous<\/strong>.<strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Data for Progress\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.demandprogress.org\/api\/media\/file\/dfp_imeupp_dp_tabs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">survey<\/a>\u00a0of 1,217 likely US voters\u2014conducted August 3\u20137 for Demand Progress and the Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) Policy Project\u2014revealed that 61% of respondents oppose legislation in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2027 that would integrate Israeli weapons companies into the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/pentagon\">Pentagon<\/a>\u00a0at a level exceeding that of any other country. That figure rose to 78% among Democrats and 73% among independents.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/hegsndbibi.jpg?itok=-fl3GGzN\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/hegsndbibi.jpg?itok=-fl3GGzN\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"ba2feea9-c8d3-4413-a41d-a609d14d8ea0\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/hegsndbibi.jpg?itok=-fl3GGzN\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>via AFP<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThis poll is a flashing red warning sign for any member of Congress who supports the defense authorization bill,\u201d <\/strong>Demand Progress senior policy adviser Cavan Kharrazian said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/newswire\/new-poll-voters-oppose-integrating-israeli-military-into-pentagon\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a>. \u201cA clear majority of voters do not support further integrating the Israeli military and Israeli military companies into the Pentagon, <strong>which the NDAA is set to do<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republican-controlled House of Representatives\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/house-passes-ndaa-with-section-219\" target=\"_blank\">voted<\/a>\u00a0last month 216-212, mostly along party lines, <strong>in favor of a record $1.15 trillion NDAA<\/strong>. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/military-spending\">military spending<\/a>\u00a0bill contains Section 219, a provision that would create a US\u2013Israel Defense\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/technology\">Technology<\/a>\u00a0Cooperation Initiative, accelerating joint defense research, development, testing, and integration of technologies including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\">artificial intelligence<\/a>, missile defense, and counter-drone systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/ro-khanna\">Ro Khanna<\/a>\u00a0(D-Calif.) submitted an amendment to strip Section 219 from the NDAA. The measure failed to pass<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Congresswoman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/ilhan-omar\">Ilhan Omar<\/a>\u00a0(D-Minn.), who voted against the NDAA, described Section 219 as <strong>\u201can outrageous threat to our country\u2019s security and autonomy<\/strong>.<strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Senate version of the military spending authorization bill has a related provision\u2014Section 1217, the United States-Israel FUTURES Act\u2014and the two chambers will need to reconcile their NDAA legislation before the final language is decided. <strong>Reconciliation is not expected to occur before November at the earliest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time for Congress to listen to the American people for once, and not the same voices who always want to cut Israel a blank check,\u201d Kharrazian said. <strong>That \u201cblank check\u201d has totaled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/crs-product\/RL33222\" target=\"_blank\">more than $174 billion<\/a>\u00a0in non-inflation-adjusted aid since the modern state of Israel was founded in 1948<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The new poll found that 57% of respondents believe the Israeli military and Israeli weapons companies should not receive increased access to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/us-military\">US military<\/a>\u00a0systems. Fifty-one percent said Israel benefits more from the US-Israel relationship, <strong>compared with just 12% who said the United States benefits more<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Although Republican voters support the Pentagon provision by a 16-point margin, when asked about it without additional context, they are considerably less enthusiastic about the idea of granting any foreign military special access, opposing it 62%-27%.<\/p>\n<p>Forty percent of surveyed voters said they believe that the US-Israeli relationship is \u201ctoo close,\u201d compared with 42% who say it is \u201cabout right.\u201d Among Democrats, 56% say relations are too close, versus just 23% who say about right. Twenty-two percent of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/republicans\">Republicans<\/a>\u00a0and 43% of Independents said US-Israeli relations are too close.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if they think President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0is too supportive of Israel\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/right-wing\">right-wing<\/a>\u00a0government, 49% said yes, compared with only 33% who said the president is giving Israel the right amount of backing and just 8% who believe he\u2019s not giving the key ally enough support.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Respondents\u2019 views of Israel itself have deteriorated markedly, with 44% saying they now view the country less favorably than they did three years ago<\/strong>\u2014compared with just 17% who say their views have improved amid the war of annihilation in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/gaza\">Gaza<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/united-nations\">United Nations<\/a>\u00a0experts,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/human-rights\">human rights<\/a>\u00a0groups, and a South Africa-led case currently before the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/international-court-of-justice\">International Court of Justice<\/a>\u00a0call a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/genocide\">genocide<\/a>, as well as the wider Israeli occupation, colonization,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/ethnic-cleansing\">ethnic cleansing<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/apartheid\">apartheid<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/palestine\">Palestine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Looking only at the past six months, 41% of respondents said their view of Israel has become less favorable, versus 16% who say it has become more favorable.
