Darline Graham, R-South Carolina, being asked a national security question during a debate.<\/p>\n<p>Graham was appointed to her late brother Lindsey Graham\u2019s Senate seat following his sudden passing in July 2026, despite critics arguing that she is unqualified to be a lawmaker. With President Donald Trump\u2019s endorsement, Graham is running for the seat against Rep. Ralph Norman, but those specifically worried about her national security chops may feel vindicated after Tuesday night\u2019s debate.<\/p>\n<p>Watch:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Moderator: Senator, are Taiwan and the South China sea national security issues for the United States and if so, why?<\/p>\n<p>Darline Graham: National security is not my thing, not my area of expertise but I support the military. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/F0FEFmc6GW\">pic.twitter.com\/F0FEFmc6GW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Acyn (@Acyn) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Acyn\/status\/2089882605474951456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 19, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Co-moderator Greta Van Susteren asked her to elaborate on whether she thought Taiwan and the South China Sea are national security concerns for the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just gonna be honest here. I\u2019m not, on national security\u2013 I\u2019m not that informed on national security, so\u2013 but I do support the military,\u201d Graham said. \u201cMy brother was in the Air Force for 33 years, so I will do everything I can to support the military. My dad was in the Army. I\u2019m not a polished politician up here. National security is not my thing, not my area of expertise, but I support the military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Norman\u2019s response was more polished, but not exactly more detailed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaiwan\u2019s a definite ally. What the president is doing right is, he\u2019s enabling Taiwan to defend themselves against China. But it\u2019s peace through strength he\u2019s showing with Iran that China, Russia, and others are looking at it so they don\u2019t want to deal with America. And that\u2019s why they haven\u2019t attacked Taiwan. If they had a weak Democrat in office like Biden or another Obama, yeah, they\u2019d take it over.
