{"id":654577,"date":"2026-08-19T13:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T13:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=654577"},"modified":"2026-08-19T13:30:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T13:30:00","slug":"doe-cancels-3-national-transmission-corridors-citing-green-new-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=654577","title":{"rendered":"DOE Cancels 3 National Transmission Corridors, Citing &#8220;Green New Scam&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">DOE Cancels 3 National Transmission Corridors, Citing &#8220;Green New Scam&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><em>By Diana DiGangi of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/doe-cancels-3-national-transmission-corridors-citing-green-new-scam\/828012\/\">UtilityDive<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><u>Summary<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><em>The U.S.\u00a0Department of Energy will not move forward with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/energy-secretary-announces-cancellation-three-proposed-national-interest-electric\">designation of three proposed National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors<\/a> that the Biden administration selected for review in 2024, saying in a Wednesday release<strong> <\/strong>that the corridors were selected as a \u201cmeans to advance\u201d that administration\u2019s \u201cGreen New Scam agenda.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><em>\u201cTransmission policy must serve the American people,\u201d Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in the release, \u201cnot special interests or a climate-alarmist agenda that drives up costs, worsens reliability, and disregards the concerns of local communities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><em>DOE\u2019s release alleged that the \u201ccurrent designation framework proved ineffective in strengthening grid reliability and reducing electricity costs. In some communities, it also contributed to confusion and concern about the scope and intent of NIETC authority.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The three cancelled corridors are the Lake Erie\u2013Canada Corridor, the Southwestern Grid Connector Corridor and the Tribal Energy Access Corridor.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/national%20corridor.jpg?itok=MMH_Xf7a\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/national%20corridor.jpg?itok=MMH_Xf7a\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"e160c8b8-2447-4e68-9b06-88058eed0a6d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"324\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/national%20corridor.jpg?itok=MMH_Xf7a\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The DOE\u2019s webpage about the NIETC process no longer includes details about the three projects.\u00a0A <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20260324193604\/https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/oe\/national-interest-electric-transmission-corridor-designation-process\">cached version<\/a>,\u00a0from March 2026, said that the three proposed corridors would serve various purposes,\u00a0including providing needed resource adequacy support to the PJM Interconnection, providing \u201ccross-interconnection and interregional connections\u201d between the Southwest Power Pool and WestConnect regions, and facilitating Tribal energy and economic development \u201cby addressing a lack of extra high-voltage transmission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the current DOE webpage, a NIETC designation can unlock federal financing tools, \u201cspecifically public-private partnerships,\u201d as well as allow the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to \u201cissue permits for the siting of transmission lines within the NIETC under circumstances where state siting authorities do not have authority to site the line, have not acted on an application for over one year, or have denied an application.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DOE said a NIETC is an area of the country where the agency has \u201cdetermined the lack of adequate transmission harms consumers and that the development of new transmission would advance important national interests in that area, such as increased reliability and reduced consumer costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cattle producer-only trade association R-CALF USA praised DOE\u2019s decision, as it had raised concerns in 2024 about the siting of the corridors for their potential to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.r-calfusa.com\/r-calf-usa-applauds-doe-move-to-halt-transmission-corridors-protect-property-rights\/\">disrupt independent livestock operations<\/a> or result in the loss of essential grazing and haying lands.\u201d Other groups, including the Environmental Defense Fund and Clean Air Task Force, criticized the cancellation and said DOE is turning down an opportunity to strengthen the grid.<\/p>\n<p>The cancelled corridors were selected to \u201chelp address areas with significant transmission congestion,\u201d CATF said in a release.\u00a0\u201cTransmission congestion increases costs and reduces reliability for ratepayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the goal is affordable, reliable, and secure electricity, we should be making it easier to build the infrastructure the grid needs \u2014 not dismantling federal frameworks designed to facilitate it,\u201d said Nicole Pavia, CATF\u2019s Director of Clean Energy Infrastructure Deployment.<\/p>\n<p>EDF noted that while Wright said the current designation framework had \u201cproved ineffective,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/library.edf.org\/AssetLink\/2u22i85p0fpod0f0eq5ho2b4yyh1t606.pdf\">DOE\u2019s National Transmission Needs Study<\/a> from July said that NIETC designation \u201cenables DOE and FERC to use valuable federal financing and permitting tools to spur construction or modification of transmission facilities within a NIETC.\u201d The National Transmission Needs Study is a triennial report, the findings of which form the basis for NIETC designations, according to DOE.<\/p>\n<p>DOE\u2019s release said the Trump administration has taken other steps to build new transmission infrastructure and modernize existing infrastructure, citing several billion-dollar loans made by its Office of Energy Dominance Financing to build, rebuild and reconductor transmission lines.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>      <span class=\"field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden\"><a title=\"View user profile.\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/users\/tyler-durden\" lang=\"\" class=\"username\" xml:lang=\"\">Tyler Durden<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden\">Wed, 08\/19\/2026 &#8211;
