Mills faced a number of issues in his pursuit of a third term, including struggling to fundraise amid a House Ethics Committee probe into \u201cserious and complex\u201d claims against him. The allegations included financial misconduct, stolen valor and domestic assault.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf particular concern to the bipartisan panel is the DC Metropolitan Police Department investigation into a report that the congressman attacked a female Republican activist at his penthouse in the nation\u2019s capital in February 2025,\u201d\u00a0The New York Post<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ethics committee is also investigating a court injunction issued in October 2025 restricting Mills\u2019 social media usage and contact pertaining to a woman \u2014 likely his ex-girlfriend, Lindsey Langston,\u201d the report continued. \u201cThe beauty queen, who was in a relationship with Mills until February 2025, accused him of harassment via text, including one May 15, 2025, message in which he told her, \u2018Strap up cowboy\u2019 \u2014 which she interpreted as a warning that he would release videos of the two \u2018engaging in sexual acts,\u2019 according to a report to the Columbia (Fla.) County Sheriff\u2019s Office on July 14, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n

While President Donald Trump had previously thrown his support behind Mills, he did not use his Truth Social account to encourage voters to turn out for the incumbent in the days leading up to the primary.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Elijah enjoyed the support of Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Mike Haridopolous, amid dozens of other endorsements. He says this level of support shows that Mills had \u201clost trust and confidence\u201d from his fellow lawmakers as well as voters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t personal for me. I\u2019m in it so we don\u2019t lose this seat,\u201d he explained during a debate.<\/p>\n

He will now have to face off against Navy veteran, former top NASA official, and Democrat Bale Dalton for Florida\u2019s 7th District seat. The Cook Political Report indicates that the race is \u201cLikely Republican,\u201d which means Dalton will be fighting an uphill battle going into the general election.<\/p>\n
