According to an Iranian government official, Iran is implementing a completely offensive military stance in the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was made following the expiration of the 60-day deadline for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Iran and the United States, and with no prospects for a peace deal.<\/p>\n

The MOU signed on June 17, put a deadline of agreement on both sides of the deal by Monday, which was not met. There was no extension offered from the U.S. Asked by reporters whether the U.S. would pursue extension of the interim agreement, President Trump answered, ‘no’.<\/p>\n

A senior Iranian official told Reuters on Monday that Iran would “break the US naval blockade by conducting a timely and precise military operation” if diplomacy fails. The official also said that “Iranian entities must be prepared to escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and wider region.”<\/p>\n

Quiet diplomacy continues to work behind the scenes. Axios reported, with two sources with firsthand knowledge, that Tulsi Gabbard, former DNI, held talks with an Iraqi Kurdish leader with close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Through that intermediary, the United States delivered a message to IRGC General Ahmad Vahidi. The main issue: whether Iran’s civilian negotiators actually represent the IRGC. Vahidi reportedly stated he was in line with the negotiators.<\/p>\n

In his interview with Fox News, Trump revealed the back-channel talks. Jared Kushner, talking to Fox News on Monday, indicated the entirety of the US-Iran talks is “probably more robust than it’s maybe ever been.”<\/p>\n

The issue that exploded the MOU is on a single article: Point 5 of the agreement. Iran claims it gives them the right to manage the Strait. That right is completely denied by the United States. Tehran claims it, and Washington denies it. Iran has resumed firing on vessels it claims are violating its blockade.<\/p>\n

Trump issued a new warning to Oman, which has a shared portion of the Strait, stating Muscat could face military actions if it does not help the United States enforce the blockade.<\/p>\n

Iranian IRGC-aligned commander Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has indicated Tehran is ready for “all-out defense.” The main issue is whether the IRGC back-channel has built enough foundation to avoid more confrontation \u2014 or whether the talks have hardened.<\/p>\n
