For years, all they had was speculation. There was talk of conspiracy and shadowy affairs. It was likely they would not be able to back any of their accusations with evidence. Well, now, the files have been released and all statements have been corroborated.<\/p>\n

The documents state that Eric Swalwell, once part of the House of Representatives, admitted to the FBI that he had a sexual relationship with a Chinese national and suspected spy Fang. In addition, he told the FBI that Fang placed her interns in Swalwell’s Congressional office. Her donations to his campaigns were funneled through U.S. citizens, and Swalwell admitted that his office was unable to identify the donations.<\/p>\n

This is not speculation \u2014 this is what Swalwell admitted during his interview with the FBI.<\/p>\n

Swalwell’s relationship with Fang was so troublesome that the FBI was forced to launch a formal investigation, and during a previous attempt to recruit Fang as a spy, they assigned the code name “Rusty Thumbs”. It was previously known to the FBI that Fang’s parents were MSS officers. With this knowledge, they were able to gather information on her relationship with Swalwell.<\/p>\n

The FBI believed Fang bribed Eric Swalwell and violated campaign finance laws by placing interns in his office in exchange for campaign access and contributions, funneled through straw donors, and developed strong evidence. Swalwell admitted to the relationship, to accepting the campaign financing and the intern placements, and was, thereafter, no longer a subject of the investigation. The focus shifted to Fang.<\/p>\n

Fang was never prosecuted for fleeing to China in 2015 after the FBI started interviewing her associates and raided her home. The Justice Department did not pursue her case despite strong evidence. Jack Smith, the prosecutor overseeing this case, later pursued two criminal cases against President Trump that many legal observers considered thin and politically motivated.<\/p>\n

The contrast is overwhelming. The same Democratic congressman who spent years warning the nation about foreign interference in American democracy was, according to his own statements to federal agents, having sexual relations with a Chinese intelligence asset, receiving laundered foreign donations, and permitting her to place her employees inside his congressional office.<\/p>\n

Washington knew. Congressional leadership received classified briefings. The intelligence community sat on this for a decade. It took a Trump administration transparency initiative to make these documents available to the American public.<\/p>\n

The lesson is not complicated. A country that refuses to protect its own institutions from foreign infiltration \u2014 because doing so would embarrass the wrong political party \u2014 is not a serious country. The FBI had the evidence. The DOJ had the case. They chose inaction.<\/p>\n

The American people deserve to know how many more of these files are collecting dust somewhere, waiting for the next declassification order to reveal what their government has been hiding.<\/p>\n
