A\u00a0CNN NewsNight<\/em> panel went off the rails when a pro-Trump guest trashed E. Jean Carroll as \u201ckind of crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The panel was discussing the effects of the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity when President Donald Trump\u2019s case with Carroll was brought up. That\u2019s when Terry Schilling cut in to defend the president, sparking a fiery debate with the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is lawfare!\u201d he shouted, insisting that Carroll was unable to provide any evidence of her claims against the president. \u201cNo other president has had this type of lawfare thrown at them.\u201d<\/p>\n

No other president has gone forward and\u00a0been found civilly liable for sexual assault. What are you talking about?\u201d asked former Democratic congressman Isaiah Martin.<\/p>\n

\u201cHold on, hold on, guys, hold on one second. Terry, you\u2019re describing this as lawfare,\u201d host Abby Phillip jumped in, trying to calm the situation before it could get out of hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Schilling confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though this is an individual bringing a suit against another,\u201d she clarified.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout any evidence. There was no police report, there was no \u2014\u201d Schilling attempted to respond.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I mean, my understanding of lawfare is. But hold on. My understanding of lawfare is this idea that it\u2019s the law, that is, you know, the institutions of the government \u2014\u201d Phillip began explaining.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, it can be weaponizing the government,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a person who has an allegation against the president. She took it to court,\u201d Phillip said of Carroll.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe couldn\u2019t remember the date; she couldn\u2019t remember the year,\u201d Schilling pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was; it was heard by a jury. And this was the judgment. So which part of that was rigged against him?\u201d Phillip asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo there was no evidence for it \u2014\u201d Schilling said before being drowned out by crosstalk.<\/p>\n

\u201cApparently the jury thought there were,\u201d said fellow panelist Christine Quinn.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight. You can cherry-pick juries. You can cherry-pick courts that you choose to fight here. This was all lawfare,\u201d Schilling repeated. And yes, private individuals can absolutely weaponize the legal system against people in power like President Trump. I find E. Jean Carroll\u2019s claims to be crazy. I think she\u2019s kind of crazy, frankly. Like if you see her house she\u2019s been \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s been well, yes, but the whole thing is, is that he called her a liar. You might find it to be that, but a jury didn\u2019t, right?\u201d Phillip interrupted.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I was falsely accused of this. I would be fighting the same way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, in our system, that\u2019s how this works. You go before a jury and they decide whether or not they find the allegations to be credible or not. And it\u2019s not a criminal case. So the bar is not, you know, is he guilty of a crime? The bar is something much lower than that,\u201d Phillip explained.<\/p>\n
