{"id":643211,"date":"2026-07-29T12:55:05","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T12:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=643211"},"modified":"2026-07-29T12:55:05","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T12:55:05","slug":"mamdanis-handpicked-judicial-panel-left-out-one-group-entirely-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=643211","title":{"rendered":"Mamdani\u2019s handpicked judicial panel left out one group entirely"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/gw-zohran-mamdani-1200x630.jpg\" class=\"attachment-facebook size-facebook wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Jews in New York City aren\u2019t happy after discovering that the city\u2019s 19-member judiciary advisory panel is 100 percent Jew-free.<\/p>\n<p>This is upsetting to them because NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently alleged that the panel, which his team described as being a \u201ctruly representative cross-section\u201d of the city\u2019s legal profession, \u201cwill help ensure that our judicial system reflects the city it serves,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/politics\/mamdani-failure-name-jewish-members-judicial-advisory-committee\/6530853\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not so fast, Jewish New Yorkers say. According to Saul Sadka, a 37-year-old socialite from Tel Aviv, the numbers simply don\u2019t add up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 45% of NYC lawyers are Jewish,\u201d he noted in a tweet. \u201cThe odds of selecting 18 NYC lawyers at random and ending up with a panel containing no Jews are 0.55 to the 18th power\u2014or roughly one chance in 47,149\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Don\u2019t be surprised that Mamdani\u2014a man for whom a Judenrein Middle East is his political lodestar\u2014also wants a Judenrein NYC. About 45% of NYC lawyers are Jewish. The odds of selecting 18 NYC lawyers at random and ending up with a panel containing no Jews are 0.55 to the 18th\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dvcfKdBs01\">pic.twitter.com\/dvcfKdBs01<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Saul Sadka (@Saul_Sadka) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Saul_Sadka\/status\/2082079971808567371?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 28, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is why a coalition of NYC\u2019s Jewish bar associations submitted a letter to Mamdani on July 27 saying\u00a0the panel\u2019s makeup left them \u201cdeeply disappointed\u201d and urging the mayor to \u201ccorrect this exclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when antisemitism is rising and Jewish communities are increasingly under threat, excluding Jewish voices from this influential body is not only disheartening, it is dangerous,\u201d the groups wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe absence of Jewish representation on a committee entrusted with shaping the future of our judiciary sends a deeply troubling message to the Jewish community and undermines the committee\u2019s credibility and ability to serve all New Yorkers fairly,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>The groups also sent the letter to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and New York Chief Judge Rowan Wilson.<\/p>\n<p>For now, some Jews like Attorney Elizabeth Forspan, the president of the Brandeis Association of Queens, are giving Mamdani the benefit of the doubt and assuming this error was just an oversight versus being purposeful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we would be na\u00efve to think that \u2014 in a city with this high a pool of Jewish lawyers, former lawyers and law professors \u2014 to not have someone from our faith represented on that committee cannot be an oversight,\u201d she told WABC. \u201cWe hope that if it was an oversight, the mayor will reverse course and admit that he made a mistake and correct it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Will he, though? So far he\u2019s been too busy opening government-run, communist grocery stores:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">At our five-borough municipal grocery stores, New Yorkers will get a 30% discount on eggs, milk, chicken, fresh produce and other everyday essentials.<\/p>\n<p>In the wealthiest city in the richest country in the world, no one should have to wonder how they\u2019ll afford the food they need\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zbNVS735bg\">pic.twitter.com\/zbNVS735bg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani (@NYCMayor) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYCMayor\/status\/2081847809696059888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 27, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But Mamdani\u2019s team doesn\u2019t appear to be playing nicely. In a statement, his press secretary claimed he\u2019s\u00a0appointed \u201ca dozen qualified judges from a range of backgrounds, including Jewish judges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The press secretary added that \u201cany suggestion that the decision around MACJ\u00a0 [the Mayor\u2019s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary] was motivated by religion is false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jewish civil rights attorney Gerard Filitti wasn\u2019t impressed by the spokesperson\u2019s reasoning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCity Hall did not deny the exclusion,\u201d he wrote on social media. \u201cIt changed the subject to judges Mamdani appointed elsewhere. Jewish New Yorkers are owed the same representation as everyone else, and this mayor just seated a panel that gives them none.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Zohran Mamdani named 18 people to the committee that seats New York City\u2019s judges.
