Already drawing ire from the non-woke wealthy, the Big Apple\u2019s socialist city hall dropped a new database \u201ceffectively doxxing thousands\u201d that may not even have been associated with his latest tax.<\/p>\n

Leftists have proven time and again that they aren\u2019t above marching a mob straight up to your door to intimidate your family, including Supreme Court justices and lawmakers. Now, at the same time New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) encouraged<\/a> the keffiyeh-clad masses to organize against an upcoming visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hizzoner\u2019s office provided the Marxist miscreants with a database to locate the wealthy owners of pieds-\u00e0-terre.<\/p>\n

As the New York Post put it<\/a>, \u201cMayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s administration has published a searchable database of Big Apple properties that could fall under the state\u2019s new pied-\u00e0-terre tax, effectively doxxing thousands of wealthy New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe city\u2019s Department of Finance uploaded the comprehensive list \u2014 which purports to cover all unoccupied, non-primary residences in the five boroughs worth north of $1 million \u2014 including the full names and addresses of every property owner,\u201d continued the newspaper.<\/p>\n

With his own name said to be erroneously on the list,\u00a0New York City Council Minority Leader David Carr (R) told the outlet, \u201cIt\u2019s a reckless and foolish move, especially considering there are potentially thousands of properties on this list that do not qualify as second homes or whose owners will successfully dispute their inclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Post, 960,000 addresses are potentially eligible for the pied-\u00e0-terre tax despite officials claiming the number would be closer to 31,000.<\/p>\n

The database followed Mamdani\u2019s warning to wealthy property owners: \u201cIf you have a second home in New York City worth more than $5M, check your mailbox when you\u2019re back in the five boroughs \u2014 because you\u2019ve got mail.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we sent notification letters to property owners, letting them know that our new pied-\u00e0-terre tax is coming soon,\u201d continued the mayor. \u201cThe best city in the world deserves the best parks, libraries, and schools in the world. That\u2019s only possible when we all pay our fair share.\u201d<\/p>\n

Defending the move in the same city where radicals had celebrated the December 2024 assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, treating the alleged killer as a heartthrob celebrity, a spokesperson for the Department of Finance stated, \u201cAs per State law, a property roll was released for public inspection. From this list, DOF will identify properties that may be subject to the new non-primary residence property surcharge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nonprofit business advocacy group Partnership for NYC CEO Steven Fulop remarked on how the \u201cfar-left already treats success itself as something to be punished\u201d as he told the Post, \u201cMost of the people on that list aren\u2019t billionaires by any stretch \u2014 they\u2019re people that believed in NYC, worked hard and bought a second home. All this does is make people feel less safe in their own city, and less welcome in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Given the framing that the addresses are unoccupied second homes, the backlash included an assertion that, \u201cIf a single one of these places gets robbed because people think nobody lives there they are out of town people than this a**hole is to blame.\u201d<\/p>\n
