{"id":642743,"date":"2026-07-28T17:12:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T17:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=642743"},"modified":"2026-07-28T17:12:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T17:12:00","slug":"feds-say-one-alert-clerk-foiled-an-alleged-explosives-plot-targeting-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=642743","title":{"rendered":"Feds say one alert clerk foiled an alleged explosives plot targeting police"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/gw-gregory-vandenberg-1200x630.jpg\" class=\"attachment-facebook size-facebook wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/div>\n<p>A deranged ex-Navy SEAL who intended to kill police at a \u201cNo King\u2019s Day\u201d protest in California has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison.<\/p>\n<p>Gregory Vandenberg, a 49-year-old former Navy SEAL, set off from El Paso ahead of a June 14, 2025 protest in San Diego but first stopped in Lordsburg, New Mexico, where he reportedly purchased six mortar-style fireworks and 72 M-150 firecrackers, according to El Paso station <a href=\"https:\/\/kfoxtv.com\/news\/local\/ex-navy-seal-sentenced-for-transporting-explosives-from-el-paso-to-california-protest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KFOX<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While at the store, he told a clerk\/cashier that he intended to throw the fireworks at the police during the upcoming \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVandenberg then asked detailed questions about the amount of gunpowder in the fireworks, their explosive impact, and their ability to harm others, and discussed taping multiple fireworks together to increase their explosiveness,\u201d according to KFOX.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, Vandenberg tried to convince the clerk to join him at the protests and discussed giving fireworks to others at the event and noted that he would not get hurt because he knew what he was doing,\u201d the station reported.<\/p>\n<p>His strange remarks alarmed the clerk enough that they recorded his license plate and called the authorities after he left. Federal agents subsequently tracked Vandenberg to Tucson, Arizona, where they found him asleep in his car at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>Though he was unemployed, he first tried to claim that he was traveling for work before changing his story and claiming he was just visiting friends.<\/p>\n<p>When federal authorities searched his car, they found the fireworks, in addition to \u201cclothes with antisemitic, anti-Israel, and extremist symbols\u2014including a t-shirt with an image of the Al-Qaeda flag, [and] another t-shirt calling for the destruction of Judea,\u201d according to KFOX.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A federal jury convicted a former U.S. Navy SEAL, Gregory Vandenberg, 49, of intending to use explosives against law enforcement officers at the \u201cNo Kings Day\u201d protest in California last year, according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office with the Western District of Texas. (KTSM) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mePSQzdwSZ\">pic.twitter.com\/mePSQzdwSZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NTC Report (@NTC_Report) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NTC_Report\/status\/2011471367556714858?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 14, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The authorities also noticed that his t-shirt spelled out \u201cAMALEK,\u201d a term that reportedly means \u201cdestroyer of Jews,\u201d and that his phone was full of even more extremist content.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice noted in a press release that the content included \u201cinternet searches and messages expressing hostility toward Jews and Israel,\u201d as well as \u201cmessages indicating that Vandenberg viewed the United States government as being controlled by Israel and Jewish people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ has alleged that these beliefs \u201cmotivated his desire to target law enforcement officers at the protests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vandenberg was eventually convicted on\u00a0Jan. 12 of this year of transporting explosives from Texas to Cali with the intent to kill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople in this country are free to hold their own beliefs and to express them peacefully,\u201d Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison said in a statement following Vandenberg\u2019s conviction. \u201cWhat they are not free to do is use explosives to threaten or terrorize others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVandenberg intended to turn explosives into a tool of intimidation, and this verdict sends the message that attempts to substitute violence for expressing one\u2019s opinion has no place in our communities and will be met with federal consequences,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Former U.S. Navy SEAL Sentenced for Transporting Explosives to Throw at Law Enforcement at California Protests <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iMXYC3xzqz\">https:\/\/t.co\/iMXYC3xzqz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Johnette Cruz (@thejohnettecruz) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thejohnettecruz\/status\/2081854625708171408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 27, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Vandenberg\u2019s views appeared to be mainly anti-Jewish, which fits into a broader pattern of antisemitic hate and conspiracy theories that have been rocking both the political left and right.
