Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith blasted President Donald J. Trump over recent remarks that NBA superstar LeBron James might be a racist.<\/p>\n

The ESPN motormouth took great exception with the president\u2019s \u201creally disgusting\u201d take, which he shared<\/a> with reporters last week when asked about who he believed was the greatest player of all time, James or the legendary Michael Jordan.<\/p>\n

Smith slam dunked Trump over the comment on Monday\u2019s edition of his YouTube show, assailing him for being \u201ctrifling\u201d and divisive in the latest skirmish in the long-running feud between the sports fan-in-chief and the surly James, who just inked a deal to play with the Philadelphia 76ers.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cOur president is trifling,\u201d Smith declared, adding, \u201cWhen you\u2019re calling LeBron James a racist, you know what? You know, it\u2019s really getting ridiculous.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe divisiveness, the way that this man acts, the things that he says, it\u2019s really, really disgusting. And it needs to be said,\u201d the host continued. \u201cI held it in long enough. I was waiting a few days, but then obviously being back to work today, and listening to this nonsense, it\u2019s just really, really disgusting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMichael Jordan is a guy that\u2019s a friend of mine, play golf with him. He\u2019s a really good guy,\u201d Trump said in the Oval Office on Friday. \u201cAnd I think LeBron is, maybe he\u2019s a racist, but maybe he doesn\u2019t like Trump, I don\u2019t know. But I only like people that like me, so, I would say Michael Jordan all the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe gotta call stuff out,\u201d Smith said of Trump\u2019s remarks. \u201cWe gotta call it out for what we see. We gotta call it out for what it is because the only way that the world is going to become a better place is when we call out trifling tendencies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if it\u2019s from our president, even if it\u2019s from our commander-in-chief,\u201d he fumed. \u201cAnd this is the latest salvo that he\u2019s thrown in somebody\u2019s direction ultimately to distract from the job that he\u2019s doing, and we got to call him out on it. We just have to.\u201d<\/p>\n

The debate about whether \u201cKing James\u201d or \u201cAir Jordan\u201d is the G.O.A.T. is ongoing with LeBron still trailing Jordan in terms of NBA titles by two, and in the waning years of his career is unlikely to close the gap on the man who defined dominance in the 1980s and 1990s, powering his Chicago Bulls teams to two threepeats while James has only managed four championships during his 24 year career, nine more than Jordan and counting.<\/p>\n

Smith has been mentioned as a potential 2028 Democratic candidate in some circles, but Trump doesn\u2019t see him as presidential material.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s a nice guy, but you need a certain aptitude to run for president,\u201d Trump said<\/a> last month. \u201cYou need a high IQ. I\u2019m not sure that Stephen has that. I don\u2019t think he does actually.\u201d<\/p>\n
