Some in the space \u2014 including Bitcoin developers \u2014 have started preparing for a post-quantum future by testing quantum-resistant signatures on live sidechains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quantum computers do exist but make mistakes and a machine that can break Bitcoin\u2019s cryptography currently does not exist. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin currently is the biggest computer network in existence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>BlackRock has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/blackrock-tells-investors-to-put-bitcoin\">skin in the game<\/a>\u00a0after having debuted in 2024 spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds. <\/strong>BlackRock\u2019s Bitcoin fund had the most successful launch in the history of the ETF industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BlackRock boss Larry Fink has also talked of Bitcoin being \u201cdigital gold\u201d and an \u201cinternational asset\u201d and has spoken about how crypto networks can help tokenize everything.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">JUST IN: Michael Saylor announces Strategy, BlackRock, Fidelity and Coinbase are pledging $15 million to support open source Bitcoin development &#8220;for the decades ahead.&#8221; \ud83d\ude80 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W5q60ph9n3\">pic.twitter.com\/W5q60ph9n3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bitcoin Magazine (@BitcoinMagazine) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BitcoinMagazine\/status\/2080271954506833953?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 23, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>BlackRock\u2019s views on Bitcoin\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The report said that while solutions exist for protecting Bitcoin against quantum computers \u2014 it is technically simple to upgrade \u2014 coordination is hard given the cryptocurrency\u2019s decentralized, consensus-driven development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BlackRock noted that about 35% of circulating Bitcoin\u2019s supply is potentially vulnerable to certain attack types due to exposed public keys, and 11-19% may be permanently lost regardless of migration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Along with crypto bigwigs like Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Block, BlackRock on Thursday\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/blackrock-coinbase-strategy-bitcoin\">announced<\/a>\u00a0a new Bitcoin Security Consortium aimed at donating funds to engineers to help their open-source work supporting proposals like BIP-360.<\/p>\n<p>The asset manager added in the report that while BIP-360 is a credible, well-designed piece of a larger puzzle, it stopped short of calling it the solution.
