WNBA star Sophie Cunningham can\u2019t help but steal the spotlight with her signature sass, beauty, and, of course, fierce play.<\/p>\n

So, it\u2019s been a welcome relief for millions who still revere commonsense when Cunningham used her enormous platform to defend women\u2019s sports. In a normal world, this wouldn\u2019t even be news, but we aren\u2019t living in normal times. The young basketball player\u2019s willingness to defy the always-ready-to-pounce angry mob was badly needed, especially for young women and girls who\u2019ve been too intimidated by social backlash to stick up for themselves and their fellow female athletes.<\/p>\n

In a nutshell, Cunningham made nationwide news by saying, while she loves everyone, she simply doesn\u2019t agree that biological males should compete in female sports.<\/p>\n

As we\u2019ve seen countless times already, it\u2019s supremely unfair<\/a>, highly dangerous<\/a>, and in some instances, with truly bad actors, it is downright sinister<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After the immediate and inevitable backlash following Cunningham\u2019s pro-women message, she continued to stand her ground.<\/p>\n

The WNBA star\u2019s courage is still resonating through the interwebs, and it appears to be affecting girls who look up to her.<\/p>\n

Take high school athlete Briley Lechner, who praised Cunningham for her contagious courage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know what it\u2019s like to have your voice on this treated like it\u2019s hateful. It isn\u2019t. Wanting a fair game and a private locker room was never hate. It\u2019s just the truth, and I\u2019m done being afraid to say it,\u201d Lechner said on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, Sophie, for going first. You made it easier for the rest of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m 16. I play because I love my sport and my team.<\/p>\n

Watching @sophaller<\/a> say it out loud \u2014 that girls shouldn\u2019t have to give up fair competition or our privacy \u2014 meant more than she\u2019ll ever know. When a WNBA star says it, maybe people finally listen.<\/p>\n

Ella Frei, who sued her high school over its locker room policies, and other girls joined \u201cFox & Friends\u201d to celebrate Cunningham\u2019s unapologetic stance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was ecstatic,\u201d Frei said of hearing about Cunningham. \u201cAnd I thought, you don\u2019t see very many people with that platform sharing their opinions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lechner also appeared on Fox News to say that Cunningham \u201cis making it 10 times more inspiring. It\u2019s encouraging me and a lot of other female athletes to speak out.\u201d<\/p>\n

A group of young girls went on Fox & Friends after Sophie Cunningham refused to back down on protecting women\u2019s sports.
