Elon Musk served up what has been characterized as a masterclass in handling the hopelessly biased media during an interview with The Economist\u2019s editor-in-chief, Zanny Minton Beddoes.<\/p>\n

At one point in the exchange, Beddoes alleged that people \u201cloathe\u201d Musk because he \u201cinfluences\u201d politics, and the world\u2019s richest man flipped the script on her entirely when he replied, \u201cI don\u2019t care. The fact that a quarter billion people follow me means a lot more people like me than don\u2019t. And I think a lot more people hate you and the media than you realize!\u201d<\/p>\n

In another exchange, Beddoes tried to claim that Musk supports not just the \u201cfar right,\u201d but the very \u201cfringe\u201d elements, and again he brilliantly put the allegation right back in her lap for dishonestly framing the right.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I support the normal people \u2014 what you call the far right, falsely,\u201d replied the Tesla CEO who also founded SpaceX. \u201cLiterally, you could go back 10-15 years, and these policies were completely normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk suggested that the \u201clunatic left\u201d would denounce a speech given 10 years ago by Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, if told that President Donald Trump gave that speech. He added that the principles being described as \u201cfringe\u201d are basic things like secure borders, safe cities, and sensible spending.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to just admonish you and the media for the absurd characterization of the far right. It is false and misleading, and nonsense,\u201d Musk said, turning to the camera to tell those editing the interview, \u201cPlease keep this part in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beddoes also tried to push the fabricated talking point that cuts motivated by DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) have resulted in the deaths of African children. But Musk countered to insist that \u201cZERO\u201d deaths have occurred.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen funding is stopped for a fraudulent organization, do you think they\u2019re going to say: \u2018Please keep funding the fraud!\u2019 Or do you think they\u2019re going to come up with a sad story that sounds sympathetic in order to get the funding restored? Obviously it will be the latter. And that\u2019s exactly what they did,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
