The Strait Burns On Night Ten<\/h2>\n

US Central Command confirmed it completed its 10th consecutive night of strikes against Iran, hitting targets including military command centers, air defense and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone launch sites. CENTCOM said the strikes were completed at 9 PM Eastern Time \u2014 part of a sustained campaign aimed at forcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which once carried a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil and gas before the war shut it to a trickle.<\/p>\n

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) hit back immediately. It claimed on Tuesday that two oil tankers attempting to transit what it called the “unsafe southern route” of the Strait were stopped after explosions caused massive fires aboard them. The IRGC framed the incident as enforcement of its blockade \u2014 there has been no independent confirmation of which vessels were targeted or who was aboard. Al Jazeera reported the IRGC described “massive fires” breaking out on both ships.<\/p>\n

Iran Hits Gulf Neighbors, Houthis Join In<\/h3>\n

Tehran simultaneously launched retaliatory strikes across the Gulf. The IRGC targeted US assets in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Bahrain said its air traffic systems were damaged \u2014 though civilian air traffic was not disrupted. Kuwait announced its air defense systems intercepted an incoming missile barrage. Jordanian authorities confirmed shooting down three Iranian missiles. In a further escalation, Iran’s Houthi allies in Yemen announced a full blockade of Saudi ports, vowing to answer what they called a “blockade with a blockade” \u2014 Saudi Arabia had been routing oil exports through the Red Sea specifically to bypass the Hormuz shutdown.<\/p>\n

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared publicly on Monday that “the Islamic Republic of Iran is engaged in a full-scale war” \u2014 a notable admission Tehran had been trying to avoid in public statements. Oil prices crossed $90 a barrel, their highest in a month, according to the Guardian.<\/p>\n

US Casualties Mount, Ceasefire Talks Inch Forward<\/h3>\n

The Pentagon confirmed 17 US service members have been killed since the war began. Two soldiers were identified Monday as killed in Jordan while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks \u2014 Trump vowed Iran would “pay many times over.” A third service member remains unaccounted for from that same attack. A fourth died in Iraq after a “controlled detonation” of an Iranian drone.<\/p>\n

The Pentagon separately admitted \u2014 per the Guardian \u2014 that almost 100 troops have been injured over recent weeks. These figures should be taken as a floor, not a ceiling: independent verification of US and Iranian casualty counts in an active theater remains unavailable.<\/p>\n

Despite the escalation, Reuters reported Tuesday that mediators delivered to Iran a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire to find ways to revive the June Memorandum of Understanding \u2014 the interim peace deal that was supposed to hold for 60 days. Iran’s interior minister was traveling to Islamabad. An Iranian official told Reuters that talks were continuing “despite the fighting.” Whether those talks survive Night Ten is another question.<\/p>\n
