Mitch McConnell (R-KY) finally broke his silence about his hospitalization.<\/p>\n<p>The Kentucky Republican had not been heard from publicly since being rushed to the hospital nearly a month ago, sparking speculation from even his own party that something was amiss. But in an open letter to the people of Kentucky, McConnell explained why he was sidelined and assured all that he was on the road to recovery.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcconnell.senate.gov\/public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">message<\/a>, and first photo of the 84-year-old former Senate majority and minority leader, came on the heels of the sudden passing of his GOP colleague, Sen. Lindsey Graham.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Mitch McConnell has finally released a photograph and a statement.:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo my fellow Kentuckians \u2013<\/p>\n<p>When you elected me to a seventh term and made me our Commonwealth\u2019s longest serving Senator, you did so trusting that I\u2019d keep showing up to fight for you every day. They haven\u2019t exactly gotten easier to manage with age. And last month, I took a fall which landed me in the hospital,\u201d McConnell\u2019s letter read, noting how \u201cfolks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy doctors have confirmed that I didn\u2019t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn\u2019t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don\u2019t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I\u2019ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell stated there were \u201csigns of continued progress\u201d and he is currently being cared for in a rehabilitation clinic, before dropping a legislative bomb.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs much as it frustrates me, this process takes time. And on the advice of my doctors, I won\u2019t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet.
