Satellite imagery analyzed by CNN in partnership with the Institute for Science and International Security shows fresh construction activity at Iran’s Taleghan 2 underground facility inside the Parchin Military Complex \u2014 and at Pickaxe Mountain, a second suspected nuclear site. The images, taken between June and early July 2026, show trucks entering and exiting sites that were hit by US-Israeli strikes, alongside new construction work at missile facilities. The imagery was published Friday night.<\/p>\n

The implicit accusation is explosive: if Iran is already shoveling dirt back into its nuclear and missile infrastructure, it has likely violated the Islamabad Memorandum it signed with the US in June \u2014 the agreement that formally paused the war. Tehran has not directly rebutted the satellite evidence; state media dismissed an overnight explosion heard in eastern Tehran province as a “controlled ammunition disposal” operation, which few will take at face value.<\/p>\n

Washington’s response came from the top and in capital letters. President Trump posted on Truth Social on Saturday morning that he has ordered the US military to be prepared to “completely decimate and destroy all areas” of Iran if Tehran carries out or attempts to assassinate him. “1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded,” he wrote, adding that “thousands more” would immediately follow any assassination attempt. The post tracks a known Iranian threat to target Trump personally \u2014 a grievance Tehran has held since the 2020 killing of Qasem Soleimani. The language is maximalist even by Trump’s standard.<\/p>\n

Against this backdrop, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi flew to Oman on Saturday for talks focused on the Strait of Hormuz and broader shipping safety. Iran’s foreign ministry framed it as a “continuation of consultations” already underway with Muscat. The strategic reality: the Strait remains the pressure point. Tehran has insisted it must control \u2014 and potentially charge fees for \u2014 the waterway that carries roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG. Under international law it cannot. Oman, which straddles Hormuz with Iran and has historically served as a back-channel between Washington and Tehran, is the right venue to de-escalate, but the satellite imagery revelation and Trump’s assassination warning make any near-term progress look unlikely. Araghchi has also been running consultations with Qatar, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia this week. Everyone is talking. Nobody has stopped the pressure from building.<\/p>\n

Bottom line: The ceasefire framework is officially dead in Washington’s eyes; talks continue in parallel; and the imagery suggests Tehran may be moving faster than the diplomats can catch up with.<\/p>\n
