Amid the demise of Graham Platner\u2019s Senate campaign, the flurry of Democrats rushing to score the nomination has many wondering what is actually wrong with the party in the state of Maine.<\/p>\n

As Platner ended his campaign amid multiple scandals and a sexual assault allegation, the Maine Democratic Party was tasked with naming a replacement nominee for the general election. One of the Senate hopefuls who has emerged is former State Sen. Troy Jackson, who just lost the Democratic gubernatorial primary weeks ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a powerful movement of working class people in the state of Maine, and millions more across America who are ready to send a progressive fighter to the Senate,\u201d Jackson wrote in a social media post. \u201cI\u2019ve been fighting for that movement my whole life \u2014 and I\u2019m sure as hell not backing down now, when this fight is needed most.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that \u201cMaine deserves a Senator that will fight for working families.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJackson and Platner ran closely aligned progressive campaigns and appeared together at campaign events throughout the 2026 election cycle. Both embraced a progressive platform and earned the backing of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.\u201d Fox News reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cJackson\u2019s ties to Sanders stretch back more than a decade. He was one of the few Democratic National Committee superdelegates to endorse Sanders over Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Democratic presidential primary and later served as Sanders\u2019 Maine political director, introducing him at campaign rallies across the state,\u201d the report continued. \u201cSanders later returned the favor, endorsing Jackson\u2019s gubernatorial campaign and appearing alongside him on the campaign trail.\u201d<\/p>\n

The progressive lawmaker and logger is touting a \u201cfight for working families,\u201d and social media users quickly put him under the microscope for his past support of Platner, among other things.<\/p>\n
