Of central issue remains potential F-35 transfer, which if carried through would outrage Israeli leaders. Turkey was blocked from the program in 2019 after the NATO member state went through with acquiring\u00a0Russia&#8217;s S-400 air defense system on fears that the US advanced fighter jets classified systems could be compromised.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/trumperdoganankara.jpg?itok=fxrlLiyb\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/trumperdoganankara.jpg?itok=fxrlLiyb\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"52c9c48d-9a4e-41ad-bb4c-bb3f27a34247\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"283\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/trumperdoganankara.jpg?itok=fxrlLiyb\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>via Associated Press<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Also central to current negotiations with Washington is a\u00a0<strong>$700 million deal for new engines for Turkey&#8217;s fighter jets<\/strong>. Turkey&#8217;s welcome ceremony for Trump and his entourage was expectedly lavish, complete with honor guards and military bands, and even cannons firing.<\/p>\n<p data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmran8dvq00063b6ralf46sy7@published\">Erdogan has said that Trump is adding &#8220;might and strength&#8221; to the summit. Trump has in turn said of the Turkish president, <strong>&#8220;We are great friends&#8221;<\/strong> &#8211; and extolled the beauty of Turkey&#8217;s modernized infrastructure. Turkey is a\u00a0country to be &#8220;reckoned&#8221; with, Trump said soon after touching down, &#8220;and the nice part is that because of the relationship that we have, it\u2019s all gone very well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmran8dvq00083b6r258mmekg@published\">Most importantly, Trump, <strong>signaled his intent to sell Turkey F-35 fighter jets<\/strong>, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/07\/07\/world\/live-news\/nato-summit-trump?t=1783431733060\">CNN<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrand6mp000e3b6rgwuc6jsv@published\"><em>US President Donald Trump said he would <strong>soon decide whether to sell Turkey F-35 fighter jets despite a Congressional ban<\/strong> as he praised the country as more loyal than other recipients of the plane.<\/em><\/p>\n<aside data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"pull-quote\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/pull-quote\/instances\/cmranew9j00003b6s5dci4f9c@published\">\n<p data-editable=\"text\"><em><strong>&#8220;We have a better relationship with Turkey, and Turkey has been in many ways much more loyal than other countries that we think would be loyal,&#8221;<\/strong> Trump said, arguing many believe the country should be able to purchase the F-35s, despite its purchase of a Russian air defense system.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmranda41000h3b6r1reqs561@published\"><em>Trump said the sales are &#8220;something certainly we consider.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmranda41000i3b6rvd6cmvnh@published\"><em>&#8220;It\u2019s a great plane, it\u2019s the best, currently the best plane by far, and certainly something we will consider,&#8221; he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmranda41000i3b6rvd6cmvnh@published\">This is after prior reporting indicated that &#8220;US officials told CNN earlier that Trump is expected to signal this week that he is willing to sell the country F-35s, reversing a ban he put in place during his first term that has since been ratified into law.&#8221; Erdogan has newly stated that Turkey has\u00a0<strong>been promised five F-35 jets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">Reporter: Mr. President, are you going to sell F-35s to T\u00fcrkiye, and what about the legal restrictions?<\/p>\n<p>Trump: We&#8217;re going to make a decision. But Trump said enough in Ankara on Tuesday to put the Israelis on edge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu told Fox News on Monday that &#8220;Turkey is a great country, but it&#8217;s <strong>governed by a man who calls openly for the annihilation of Israel<\/strong>&#8221; &#8211; in reference to Erdogan.\u00a0&#8220;He occupies half of Cyprus, a NATO country.
