U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) joined the Democrats\u2019 fearmongering over the midterm elections, recently claiming that a loss for his party in November will send black Americans \u201cback in the cotton fields.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Georgia lawmaker claimed Republicans are waging a war against black people and Democrats need to fight back during an interview on the #RolandMartinUnfiltered broadcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, Trump used to talk about how good he had been to black folks in terms of job creation. It was lies then. But now we\u2019re losing jobs under Trump. Instead of him creating jobs or his administration creating jobs, they\u2019re losing jobs, and black folks are disproportionately losing those jobs,\u201d Johnson claimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a GOP war on black America, and if we don\u2019t stand up and fight back, we\u2019re going to be back in the cotton fields,\u201d Johnson continued, before noting what he meant by \u201cfighting back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd when I talk about fighting back, I\u2019m not talking about taking up arms. I\u2019m talking about taking it to the streets in protest, and also by exercising our precious right to vote,\u201d said the Democrat\u00a0who once famously suggested Guam might \u201ctip over and capsize.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to get out in November and vote, like John Lewis said, like our lives depend on it, because our lives do depend on it this time,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The claims were similar to those Johnson made earlier this year when he contended that President Donald Trump and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement wanted a return to slavery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ways in which they can kill public education, from defunding it from a federal level, and then also enabling state monies and local monies to flow into the private for-profit school setup,\u201d he said at the time, claiming it was a \u201crecipe to make education unavailable to black people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd where does that then leave us? It puts us back to when America was great, and we were picking cotton and all of it\u2026,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut they would have us back confined to doing that kind of work,\u201d he claimed. \u201cSo we gotta watch out for where we are headed, and it\u2019s the people that will save our democracy, that will stop this movement towards the past that Trump has us hurtling towards.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s latest alarm over slavery was met with mockery on social media.<\/p>\n
