Independence Day weekend allegedly kicked off with a crash instead of a bang for the Pelosis when the former House speaker\u2019s husband was accused of leaving the scene of an accident.<\/p>\n\n

Known for business ventures and a late-night hammer fight, Paul Pelosi also has a reputation for motor vehicle accidents stretching back to a tragedy from his youth. Friday, the husband of California Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D) allegedly added a new notch in his seatbelt that could see him charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run.<\/p>\n

According to the Napa County Sheriff\u2019s Office, a witness called to report seeing a brown convertible strike an unoccupied parked car in Yountville, CA around 2:30 p.m., only for the driver to briefly stop before driving away. A brown convertible was found roughly a quarter of a mile away with damage consistent with a collision as law enforcement identified 86-year-old Paul Pelosi as the driver.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the investigation, Pelosi admitted to hitting something but said he didn\u2019t know what he had hit, so he kept driving. He drove until his car became disabled and was no longer able to continue driving,\u201d a statement from the Napa County Sheriff\u2019s Office conveyed while indicating that a test determined a DUI was not suspected.<\/p>\n

A statement from the family read, \u201cMr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle. Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s accident came a little more than four years after Pelosi had previously been arrested for a DUI. In May 2022, when his wife was still House Speaker, he\u2019d been arrested with a blood-alcohol level of 0.082. He pled guilty to a DUI charge after his 2021 Porsche crashed into a 2014 Jeep.<\/p>\n

Following his arrest and guilty plea, Pelosi was sentenced to five days in jail, three years\u2019 probation, a three-month DUI program, and was ordered to pay thousands in fines and restitution to the victim. Regarding the sentence, two days served and good conduct credit for two more left Pelosi performing eight hours in the court\u2019s work program to spare him another day in jail.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the video, Fox News host Jesse Watters said at the time, \u201cIt\u2019s obvious to anyone with two eyes this is not a misdemeanor. This is a felony. The cops admitted how serious it was on the tape they\u2019ve been hiding. They told Paul he was lucky to be alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Decades earlier, at 16-years-old, Pelosi flipped a sports car in an accident that resulted in the death of his older brother David, 19. He\u2019d also been cited for running a red light and veering over the center line back in 2011.<\/p>\n

While it remains to be seen whether he will face a hit-and-run charge for Friday\u2019s accident,\u00a0Pelosi has been referred to the DMV for a driver reevaluation.<\/p>\n
