STUDENT:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cActually, the Mexicans were there originally in Texas\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

KIRK:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWrong. They stole it from lots of Indian tribes\u2026 Texas was not indigenously Mexican\u2026 there was the Cherokee. There were many different Native American tribes there.\u00a0So Mexico was participating in Manifest Destiny<\/strong>\u00a0at the behest of the Spanish crown.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

[Student acknowledges Kirk is right]<\/em><\/p>\n

KIRK:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cAt some point, you have to believe in self-determination. If you can win the land, it\u2019s yours. That is what built the West.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

STUDENT: \u201cI can agree with that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

KIRK:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cSo instead of a land acknowledgement\u2026 you should have a gratitude acknowledgement. \u2018Praise God, I live in America! I\u2019m glad!\u2019 A gratitude acknowledgement would be nice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
