{"id":624729,"date":"2026-06-25T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=624729"},"modified":"2026-06-25T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T06:00:00","slug":"so-hows-spains-mass-migrant-amnesty-working-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=624729","title":{"rendered":"So, How&#8217;s Spain&#8217;s Mass Migrant Amnesty Working Out?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">So, How&#8217;s Spain&#8217;s Mass Migrant Amnesty Working Out?<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/aaron-hanscom\/2026\/06\/22\/so-hows-spains-mass-amnesty-working-out-n4954241\"><em>Authored by Aaron Hanscom via PJMedia.com,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Half a million.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the number that made headlines in April when Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez&#8217;s Socialist government approved plans to grant legal status to 500,000 illegal migrants.<\/p>\n<p>But a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theolivepress.es\/spain-news\/2026\/02\/17\/leaked-police-report-claims-spanish-government-is-massively-underestimating-scale-of-new-migrant-amnesty-plan-with-up-to-1-35-million-applying\/\">leaked police report<\/a>\u00a0warned that <strong>the true number could be much higher, estimating that between 750,000 and 1 million illegal migrants living in Spain could apply for amnesty,<\/strong> in addition to 250,000 to 350,000 asylum seekers.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/be6138c9-56f2-44ac-9860-71917cee.jpg?itok=zjOjtLXp\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/be6138c9-56f2-44ac-9860-71917cee.jpg?itok=zjOjtLXp\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"67f7129a-1174-40d0-af9f-a76055a9fe98\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"292\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/be6138c9-56f2-44ac-9860-71917cee.jpg?itok=zjOjtLXp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The report described the amnesty plan&#8217;s &#8220;very intense media impact, especially in Latin America&#8221; and warned of a &#8220;highly relevant pull factor,&#8221; which we will return to in a moment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The conservative Popular Party (PP) also disputed the government&#8217;s estimates, saying the true number could be double and calling the plan an &#8220;outrage.&#8221; S\u00e1nchez, whom The Economist has called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/international\/2025\/09\/09\/meet-the-leader-of-europes-anti-trump-resistance\">the leader of Europe\u2019s anti-Trump resistance<\/a>,\u00a0anticipating such criticism, wrote in\u00a0a New York Times op-ed in January that &#8220;MAGA-style leaders may say that our country can\u2019t handle taking in so many migrants \u2014 that this is a suicidal move, the desperate act of a collapsing country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, the numbers are starting to come in and, just as Joe Biden&#8217;s weak border enforcement in the U.S. created a &#8220;pull factor&#8221; that led to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/us-mexico-border-illegal-immigrant-crossings-fall-joe-biden-2004364\">average<\/a>\u00a0monthly border crossings of over 100,000, S\u00e1nchez\u2019s policies are having a similar magnet effect, far exceeding his government\u2019s estimates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Even though the asylum application window remains open until June 30, 900,000 applications have already been submitted, a record number for Spain. <\/strong>The European Conservative\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/europeanconservative.com\/articles\/news\/spains-amnesty-reveals-the-true-scale-of-illegal-immigration\/\">reports<\/a>\u00a0that &#8220;approximately 350,000 additional applications have been submitted since the start of June, a surge that has caught authorities off guard.&#8221; The publication notes that these numbers are much higher than the last time mass amnesty was tried in Spain, in 2005 under the Socialist government of Jos\u00e9 Luis Rodr\u00edguez Zapatero, who these days spends his time in court as the subject of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/spains-ex-pm-zapatero-denies-wrongdoing-graft-court-hearing-2026-06-17\/\">graft probe<\/a>. Zapatero&#8217;s program granted 576,000 residence permits from 691,000 applications received.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S\u00e1nchez, of course, looks at every new immigrant as a potential future voter who won&#8217;t care about the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/spain-prime-minister-pedro-sanchez-pressure-former-minister-convicted-corruption\/\">mind-boggling corruption<\/a>\u00a0within his Spanish Socialist Workers&#8217; Party (PSOE).<\/strong> As increasing numbers of Spaniards\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/tens-thousands-march-madrid-demand-spanish-prime-minister-resigns-2026-05-23\/\">take to the streets<\/a>\u00a0to demand the prime minister&#8217;s resignation, Muslim migrants are among his most loyal supporters. In the video below, we meet a Muslim store owner a minute in, with a poster of S\u00e1nchez on his shop wall, who says Muslims are \u201c100%&#8221; going to vote for \u00a0the prime minister if they become citizens. Why? Because he &#8220;stands with Iran and Palestine.&#8221; Indeed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/aaron-hanscom\/2026\/03\/05\/us-and-spain-in-standoff-over-iran-war-whats-the-truth-n4950289\">he does<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;d be hard-pressed to find a poster of Santiago Abascal, the leader of the rising populist\/conservative Vox party, in any Muslim-owned shops in Spain. <strong>Abascal, who has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=3804905156313037\">said<\/a>\u00a0that it is &#8220;inhumane to tell all of Africa and all of America that they can fit into Spain,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theobjective.com\/etiqueta\/regularizacion-inmigrantes\/\">warned<\/a>\u00a0in April that mass amnesty will increase crime in the streets of Spain and accelerate the country&#8217;s housing and public healthcare crises.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s not just Spanish politicians who are criticizing S\u00e1nchez&#8217;s policies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/giorgia-meloni-pedro-sanchez-clash-over-eu-migration-crackdown\/\">told<\/a>\u00a0S\u00e1nchez in a closed-door meeting in Brussels last week that his amnesty plan negatively affects all EU countries<\/strong>. It was at that EU leaders&#8217; meeting in Brussels that S\u00e1nchez opposed, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, plans for offshore migrant deportation hubs. Politico\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/giorgia-meloni-pedro-sanchez-clash-over-eu-migration-crackdown\/\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The disagreement comes days after the EU approved legislation allowing members to establish deportation hubs in third countries as part of a push to ensure failed asylum-seekers leave the bloc. While it\u2019s still unclear how many capitals could take advantage of the rule change, 19 of the EU 27 signed up to a joint Danish-Italian letter, first\u00a0reported by POLITICO, calling for swift action on deportations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cCountries are now working \u2026 to implement the new possibilities, including hubs in third countries.
