Dan Goldman visited Poetica Coffee\u2019s Brooklyn branch with his young daughter on Sunday, which was the last day for voters to cast early ballots in his tough Democratic primary race against Brad Lander.<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, the coffee chain\u2019s owner published a stunning Instagram post slamming Goldman\u2019s presence at his store:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Truly wild stuff from a local NYC coffee shop \u2014 the city has become a very broken place<\/p>\n<p>Can\u2019t help but also notice Dan Goldman\u2019s thoroughly dignified response<\/p>\n<p>Also wondering <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheLeoTerrell?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheLeoTerrell<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HarmeetKDhillon?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HarmeetKDhillon<\/a> if this legal <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qfyLX7P6Bt\">pic.twitter.com\/qfyLX7P6Bt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jon Levine (@LevineJonathan) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LevineJonathan\/status\/2069056080567509385?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHey Congressman Dan Goldman, we see that you stopped by our shop today for a coffee,\u201d the owner wrote. \u201cDo you see how it doesn\u2019t taste like genocide juice? Or are you still having a hard time telling the difference? See, here at Poetica, we don\u2019t serve racists, fascists, homophobes, genocide enablers, or anyone in between.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo bad we didn\u2019t recognize you right away, or we would have turned you away. We issued you a refund\u2014we don\u2019t need your money (it\u2019s probably coming from AIPAC anyways). Enjoy your loss on Tuesday. Don\u2019t ever come to Poetica,\u201d the owner added.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Goldman asked that his cashier be tipped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am sorry to see this post,\u201d he replied on Instagram. \u201cThe barista could not have been nicer to my 7-year-old daughter and me \u2014 allowing her to use the bathroom even though we had not purchased anything. I made sure to buy a coffee in return for her kindness. I hope you at least make sure she gets the tip that she deserved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant attorney general overseeing the Department of Justice\u2019s Civil Rights Division, announced on X that she\u2019s looking into what happened:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CivilRights?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CivilRights<\/a> is aware of the denial of service taunts to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/danielsgoldman?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@danielsgoldman<\/a> by Poetica Coffee in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>Federal law prohibits public accommodations such as coffee shops from discriminating against patrons based on their race, religion, or national origin. These actions are\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/reOawYeEzU\">https:\/\/t.co\/reOawYeEzU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 AAGHarmeetDhillon (@AAGDhillon) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AAGDhillon\/status\/2069174058143420627?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lander, who\u2019s staunchly anti-Israel in his views, also responded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are plenty of ways to lobby elected officials and express outrage at the votes they\u2019ve taken without turning coffee shops into places people don\u2019t feel welcome,\u201d he said in a statement reported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/22\/nyregion\/coffee-shop-poetica-dan-goldman-israel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Times<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m glad Poetica took down their post, and I thought Representative Goldman\u2019s reply was extremely gracious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Poetica Coffee has since shuttered its Instagram accounts because of all the backlash that was evidently pouring in.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/22\/us-news\/nyc-coffee-shop-bans-pro-israel-politician-in-nasty-post-despite-promise-to-treat-all-customers-with-unconditional-dignity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, Jewish civil rights attorney Rory Lancman ripped into the coffee shop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing poetic in Poetica\u2019s flippant use of \u2018AIPAC\u2019 as a slur against a Jewish public official, which like \u2018Zionist\u2019 or its more noxious shorthand, \u2018Zio,\u2019 is nothing more than a coded dog-whistle for \u2018Jew,&#8217;\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoetica may claim to be a place \u2018where the guest is sacred, the books are unbanned, and the door is open to everyone,\u2019 but clearly its guests are merely prey for public abuse, its thirst for banning those with opposing opinions is unslakable, and its doors are closed to Jews who think that the Jewish state shouldn\u2019t just lay down and die,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>His remark about the coffee shop being a certain way was a reference to what the shop claims on its website, which is that every guest is \u201csacred\u201d and deserves to be \u201ctreated with unconditional dignity\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">SNL like parody from their website <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LevineJonathan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LevineJonathan<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pAv46iunRr\">pic.twitter.com\/pAv46iunRr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dan Silvershein (@DanSilvershein) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DanSilvershein\/status\/2069188395025445288?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Unless, of course, they support Israel\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Contacted by the Post on Monday, Poetica Coffee\u2019s staff members seemingly doubled down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo comment. We stand against genocide,\u201d a staffer told the Post.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/23\/politics\/dan-goldman-poetica-coffee-shop-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> late Monday, Goldman spoke a little bit more about what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had such a nice interaction with the barista in the coffee shop,\u201d he said. \u201cShe was wearing a hijab. I didn\u2019t know her, but she couldn\u2019t have been nicer and allowed my daughter to go use the bathroom, and I honestly was so grateful for her kindness that I felt like I should buy a coffee, and so I did, and I gave her a large tip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, as a Democrat, he couldn\u2019t resist taking a completely unnecessary swing at Dhillon and the Department of Justice for looking into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would rather they spend their time and resources investigating antisemitism against people who do not have a platform that I do, who are not elected officials, who do not \u2014 in some ways \u2014 ask for this,\u201d he said. \u201cI mean, I don\u2019t ask for the antisemitism, but I\u2019m a public figure, and I can accept the criticism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/sg-poetica-coffee-2-1200x630.jpg\" title=\"New York coffee shop turns on fellow Democrat\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A leftist-owned coffee shop in Brooklyn is facing public scrutiny for banning a Democrat congressman because he supports Israel.
