While the mayor and governor played the blame game and insisted the White House butt out, President Donald Trump pointed to past success in support of a \u201cFAST\u201d and permanent solution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least 39 people injured, 4 dead, in Chicago weekend shootings,\u201d the president posted overnight, referring to deployments of the National Guard around the country. \u201cGovernor Pritzker, I, as President, can fix this, FAST and Permanently. D.C., Memphis, New Orleans, all down to record lows, and quickly! CALL ME!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Truth Social statement followed an appeal from Trump a day earlier to Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) to call on federal assistance, writing, \u201cLots of Killing going on in Chicago. 22 people shot, at least 4 Dead. Why isn\u2019t Governor Pritzker calling me for help. I could make Chicago a safe City in ONE MONTH, in ONE Year, it would be one of the safest!!! D.C. went from one of the worst, to one of the safest cities in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"zxx\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/md93jYQCXh\">pic.twitter.com\/md93jYQCXh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RapidResponse47\/status\/2068687021116113034?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 21, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Detailing the violence throughout the city, CWB Chicago <a href=\"https:\/\/cwbchicago.com\/2026\/06\/fathers-day-weekend-shootings-soar-100-in-chicago-as-city-sees-bloodiest-day-since-2024.html\">reported<\/a> that at least 43 people were shot or killed in the Windy City, marking a 105% increase compared to that weekend the year prior. Rather than policing efforts or crackdowns on crime, that total was suspected to have been kept down by the chance that it rained.<\/p>\n<p>Leading off the gunfire-riddled stretch, a drive-by shooting in the Princeton Park neighborhood was responsible for injuring at least 13 people when over 100 rounds were fired into a crowd. The Chicago Police Department said in a statement, \u201cOffenders from inside the vehicle began firing gunshots towards the crowd before fleeing the scene. Because we have put forth an agenda that he actually promised he would do.
