Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid scolded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the political consequences of the Iran war in Israel accelerate.<\/p>\n

Excerpts from Lapid’s speech below:<\/p>\n

“Like most Israelis, I supported the war against Iran. But it is impossible to support the way it was managed.<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu promised us a historic victory. Instead, we got a crisis with the Americans, the Strait of Hormuz open to Iran, money flowing to the IRGC, ballistic missiles aimed at Israel, Hezbollah still part of the equation, and Israel waiting in the hallway like a scolded child.<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu failed even at the easiest public diplomacy task imaginable\u2014a democracy defending itself against a violent, radical, antisemitic Islamic dictatorship that arms terrorist organizations throughout the Middle East.<\/p>\n

“How did you manage to fail to explain even this war to the world?<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu sold the Americans a scenario in which the regime would fall.<\/p>\n

“He did not present them with the risks: not the impact on energy markets, not the issue of Hormuz, not Lebanon, and above all not the fact that he did not actually know how to bring down the regime.<\/p>\n

“And when that scenario failed to materialize, he lost their trust in the middle of the war.<\/p>\n

“Look at Trump’s statement about the bombing in Dahieh.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“This was not a discussion between independent countries. It was a commander reprimanding his platoon sergeant.<\/p>\n

“That’s what happens when, in the middle of a war, you go to an American president and beg him to help you with your pardon.<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu failed to convince the Americans to strike Iran’s oil and energy facilities, especially at Kharg Island. I’ve been talking about this since October 2024.<\/p>\n

“If you don’t strike the energy infrastructure, then what do you do? How do you create economic pressure points against the Iranian regime?<\/p>\n

“He failed to offer an alternative.<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu did not build political support inside the United States in advance of the war\u2014not among the isolationists within the administration, and not among the MAGA movement that turned against him.<\/p>\n

“I’m not even talking about the complete collapse of relations with the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu did not understand that the Strait of Hormuz is not a footnote\u2014it is the heart of the story.<\/p>\n

“The moment fuel prices in the United States started to rise, Trump was no longer looking at Israel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“He was looking at the congressional elections and at his political base, which hated the war.<\/p>\n

“What happened was that Netanyahu pushed for war with Iran as if it didn’t pass through the gas pump in Ohio.<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu pushed the Kurdish plan without taking into account the predictable Turkish reaction and the influence Erdogan has in Washington.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Erdogan gave him a lesson.<\/p>\n

“Netanyahu failed to turn the Gulf states into Israel’s strategic partners in this war.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“They were not part of the diplomatic front. They were not part of the economic framework. They were not part of the regional mechanism.\u00a0<\/p>\n
