{"id":621544,"date":"2026-06-19T13:05:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T13:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=621544"},"modified":"2026-06-19T13:05:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T13:05:00","slug":"uk-gilt-yields-spike-as-burnham-win-opens-door-to-oust-starmer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=621544","title":{"rendered":"UK Gilt Yields Spike As Burnham Win Opens Door To Oust Starmer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">UK Gilt Yields Spike As Burnham Win Opens Door To Oust Starmer<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>The <strong>odds of embattled UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer being ousted by the end of July are soaring<\/strong> this morning&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8230;after Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham won a decisive victory for the ruling Labour Party that delivers him a seat in Parliament and, with it, a pathway to challenge Starmer for his job.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Burnham was elected in a standalone contest for the constituency of Makerfield, in northwestern England, with a convincing 54.8% of the vote.<\/strong> He defeated Robert Kenyon from Nigel Farage\u2019s right-wing Reform UK, who secured 34.5%, while third-placed Restore Britain registered just under 7%.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2026-06-19_05-49-16.jpg?itok=NfNQD0V5\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2026-06-19_05-49-16.jpg?itok=NfNQD0V5\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"7b315a71-4ac2-407e-9e63-cf32cefdbd0d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"313\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2026-06-19_05-49-16.jpg?itok=NfNQD0V5\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, Starmer congratulated his rival on his victory.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cVoters chose Labour\u2019s campaign of hope and optimism over division and hate,\u201d<\/strong> he wrote.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Farage said he was \u201cdisappointed,\u201d in a video posted after the result.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing voters who left his party for Restore he asked:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat do you want? We are the challenger party to the left in this country, and I would urge you to think again.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>A defiant Starmer said in response that he would run against Burnham in any leadership contest. <\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cIf there is one, I\u2019ll stand,\u201d he told broadcasters on Friday morning, hours after Burnham\u2019s victory: <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m not going to walk away.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As Bloomberg reports, the prime minister\u2019s fortunes have faded after he led his party to a dismal showing in the May locals, where Reform gained ground.
