A Minnesota widow spoke of \u201cclosure\u201d as the Department of Homeland Security made an announcement about the illegal alien responsible for her husband\u2019s homicide.<\/p>\n

While leftists have continued to defend the dissolution of America\u2019s sovereignty, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has remained at work cleaning up the mess from President Joe Biden\u2019s administration. On June 9, this included the arrest of an illegal alien from Russia who served limited jail time after admitting to using an iPad to learn English at the time of a fatal collision in Minnesota.<\/p>\n

As detailed in a press release<\/a> from DHS, ICE agents arrested Georgii Gabiev in Brooklyn, New York, on June 9, more than two years after he \u201cfailed to obey a stop sign, causing a fiery collision\u201d that took the life of 59-year-old semi-truck driver Tim Tarnowski in Chippewa County, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis illegal alien had no business being in our country and on our roadways,\u201d expressed DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin in a statement. \u201cIf it weren\u2019t for the Biden administration\u2019s open border policies, this tragedy would never have happened, and Tim would still be alive. [President Trump] and I will never stop fighting for justice for Angel Families. They are our why.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the department, Gabiev had illegally entered the United States via California in 2022, only to become one of the many the Biden administration released into the country.<\/p>\n

In an all too familiar story, the then-32-year-old Gabiev pled guilty after being charged with criminal vehicular homicide and reckless driving in the March 5, 2024, crash. He also admitted that at the time of the accident, he was using an iPad to learn English, though he claimed he was not looking at the device.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota Star Tribune reported<\/a> in July of that year that Judge Thomas Van Hon opted for a 120-day jail sentence with time served over a one-year prison sentence, limiting his incarceration to a mere 69 days after sentencing. Additionally, Gabiev was to serve three years\u2019 probation, take a safe driving course, and pay the victim\u2019s widow, Tammy Tarnowski, restitution of $5,437.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough Tim will never be brought back, Gabiev\u2019s capture will bring the justice deserved,\u201d the widow said after DHS detailed that Mullin called her personally to inform the family about the arrest. \u201cOur family now has closure, and we can begin the healing process needed to move forward. Our hope is that this will bring light to Angel Families and will save others from going through the heartache we have endured.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with the crackdown on illegal aliens, the arrest comes as the federal government has sought to put a stop to sanctuary states issuing driver\u2019s licenses \u2014 particularly commercial driver\u2019s licenses \u2014 to non-citizens. In December, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated<\/a>, \u201cWe will pull every dollar possible from every single state that\u2019s unwilling to work with this administration and these longstanding rules to make sure that when an American family gets in a car, they shouldn\u2019t be worried that they have an unqualified foreigner operating an 80,000 pound big rig that could endanger their lives \u2026 or an unqualified driver operating a motor coach.\u201d<\/p>\n
