As <a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Latest-Energy-News\/World-News\/Solar-Tops-Coal-in-US-Power-Mix-for-the-First-Month-Ever.html\"><em>OilPrice <\/em>notes<\/a>, while the share of solar-generated power jumped to a record high for a full month, <strong>the share of coal in the U.S. electricity mix slumped to 12.2% last month, the fourth-lowest monthly share of coal ever.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/solar%20overtakes%20coal.jpg?itok=hRGtN744\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/solar%20overtakes%20coal.jpg?itok=hRGtN744\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"b076b486-6b6f-488d-8b29-50c31e54456d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"387\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/solar%20overtakes%20coal.jpg?itok=hRGtN744\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Solar generated an all-time high total of 45.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) in May, up by 17% from a year earlier and surpassing the previous record set in July last year, according to Ember\u2019s data.\u00a0In May, solar also became the third-largest source of electricity in the U.S., behind natural gas and nuclear power generation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>At the same time, coal generation hit an all-time monthly low of 39.3 TWh in April 2026.
