A subgroup of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is prepping for a national intifada against law enforcement, a reminder that political violence and mayhem remain high priorities for the organized left.<\/p>\n

The organization has become a serious force in domestic politics and is devoted to putting socialists into political office, two of whom, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) have ties to DSA, which boasts of its influence as the \u201clargest socialist organization in the United States\u201d on its website.<\/p>\n

Engaging in the political process is one thing, planning for a \u201cnational uprising against federal agents and police brutality\u201d is another, and that\u2019s what the DSA\u2019s \u201cRed Rabbits\u201d are apparently busying themselves with.<\/p>\n

The City Journal\u2019s Stu Smith sheds light on the \u201cRed Rabbits\u201d initiative, which he describes as \u201cDSA\u2019s Emerging Militant Network\u201d in a bombshell expose<\/a> on the effort, which has maintained a low profile since its launch at the DSA\u2019s 2025 convention. The report on the subversive subgroup is getting attention, with it also being published in the New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In his story on the subgroup of radicals focused on what it calls \u201ccommunity defense,\u201d Smith peels back the curtain on the \u201cRed Rabbits\u201d and shares video of a panel discussion with organizers discussing tactics, including \u201ctakedowns on intersections\u201d training and blocking \u201cfascists\u201d with umbrellas, which have been utilized by militant left-wing activists at numerous domestic protests.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\ud83e\uddf5\" DSA says its Red Rabbits initiative is about \u201csecurity.\u201d But according to its own authorizing resolution, the project is preparing for a \u201cnational uprising against federal agents and police brutality.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Smith, the discussion also included \u201cdirect-action support for Palestine and immigrant-justice groups.\u201d<\/p>\n

The initiative\u2019s organizers picked the \u201cdeliberately innocuous\u201d name in honor of\u00a0 Richard Adams\u2019 1972 novel \u201cWatership Down,\u201d in which \u201canthropomorphized rabbits are outnumbered and beset by enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Red Rabbits claim that their focus is on five core security skills: de-escalation, Stop the Bleed (a first aid training on bleeding control), firearm safety, unarmed self-defense, and protest marshalling (crowd management during demonstrations). The commission has set a goal of having at least five members in 40 percent of DSA chapters complete these trainings,\u201d Smith reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the event, local chapters described a range of security preparations broader than that envisioned by the national commission,\u201d he wrote of the panel discussion. \u201cThese included martial-arts sparring, evacuation planning, wound-packing, radio communications, the use of umbrellas and signs to shield participants from and block \u2018fascists,\u2019 and even chemical-exposure training, in which participants practiced being pepper-sprayed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith reports that some chapters are already conducting in-house training, with a chapter in Philadelphia planning on developing \u201csick\u201d training on firearm safety. He notes that DSA\u2019s \u201cOklahoma City Queer Fight Club has evidently become a local training hub, teaching self-defense and broader \u2018community defense\u2019 skills\u201d and that \u201cPortland DSA has organized trainings on blocking intersections with bicycles, a practice known as \u2018corking.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DSA has largely avoided scrutiny, despite its increasingly extreme rhetoric and practices. As the organization grows in influence and increasingly aligns itself with radical activists and hostile regimes abroad, elected officials and government institutions have continued to look the other way,\u201d Smith warned. \u201cIf Republicans, Democrats, and state and federal authorities keep ignoring these red flags, they may eventually find themselves living under one.\u201d<\/p>\n
