US Seeking ‘Precise Info’ On Iran’s Enriched Uranium Via IAEA Board<\/span><\/p>\n

Washington has turned to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors in order to determine the fate of Iran\u2019s highly enriched uranium, according to reports by\u00a0Reuters<\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/i>and other media outlets.<\/p>\n

Sources cited by\u00a0Reuters<\/i>\u00a0\u2013 which obtained a draft of a resolution being pushed by the US \u2013 said that Iran is being called on to \u201cprovide the Agency with precise information on nuclear material accountancy and safeguarded nuclear facilities in Iran.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The US draft also calls on Tehran to grant \u201call access it requires to verify this information,\u201d adding that Iranian cooperation is \u201cessential and urgent\u201d and must happen \u201cwithout delay.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The text does not refer Iran to the UN Security Council, which would have followed up on the IAEA resolution declaring Tehran in breach of its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).<\/p>\n

That resolution was issued on 12 June 2025, a day before the US-backed 12-day war on Iran last year.\u00a0Diplomats told\u00a0Reuters<\/i>\u00a0that such a move was \u201cunder consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al Mayadeen<\/i><\/a>\u00a0also reported, citing its own draft copy of the resolution, that Washington is lobbying states on the IAEA Board to back its push.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This came as IAEA chief Rafael Grossi\u00a0called\u00a0<\/a>on Tehran to \u201cre-engage\u201d with the IAEA.\u00a0\u201cI call on Iran to engage the Agency constructively in order to facilitate the \u200bfull and effective implementation of safeguards in Iran,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cIt’s very important that we re-engage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reuters<\/i><\/a>\u00a0reported earlier in June that the\u00a0US was preparing a draft resolution to condemn Iran at an upcoming IAEA meeting. Tehran has repeatedly accused the IAEA of passing along sensitive information to Israel<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the end of the 12-day war last year, the US attacked key Iranian nuclear sites and claimed it \u201cobliterated\u201d Tehran\u2019s entire nuclear program.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Intelligence assessments indicated at the time that Washington\u2019s claims were false.\u00a0Since then, the IAEA has been demanding access to the targeted nuclear sites, a demand which Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi referred to last year as \u201cmalicious.\u201d<\/p>\n

In early April, Washington launched what it said was an effort to rescue a downed pilot over Iran. US forces faced heavy resistance from Iranian troops during the incursion and reportedly lost multiple aircraft.<\/p>\n
