While Russian authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased man, it happened very near <strong>an area known to host residences of military and government officials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The location of Tuesday\u2019s\u00a0explosion is not far from where\u00a0Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik \u2014 the deputy head of the General Staff\u2019s main operational directorate \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2025\/04\/25\/russian-army-general-killed-in-moscow-car-explosion-investigators-say-a88872\" title=\"was killed\">was killed<\/a>\u00a0in a car bombing last year,&#8221; the Amsterdam-based Moscow Times writes.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/carbombing.jpg?itok=jDhEo_QZ\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/carbombing.jpg?itok=jDhEo_QZ\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"d0be3b0d-a3bd-4def-93ba-6db109dcf3d1\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/carbombing.jpg?itok=jDhEo_QZ\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>via social media<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Investigators said an &#8220;explosive device was detonated while a BMW X3 car was driving near a residential apartment building.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In this newest case, <strong>the speculation on Telegram is that\u00a0the fatality was a 62-year-old lieutenant general<\/strong>. A formal investigation is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2026\/06\/09\/driver-killed-in-moscow-region-car-explosion-near-site-of-generals-assassination-a92958\">underway<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Security camera footage circulated by pro-Kremlin media\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/shot_shot\/96311\" title=\"showed\">showed<\/a>\u00a0the <strong>vehicle bursting into flames from the trunk and back seats before rolling into a parked vehicle<\/strong>. According to the Telegram channel Mash, bystanders\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/shot_shot\/96312\" title=\"rushed\">rushed<\/a>\u00a0to pull the driver out of the burning wreckage, but he died shortly after.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s internal security service, the FSB, previously said it is making great efforts to tighten around high-ranking military officers of late.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"822\" data-start=\"595\">This possibly adds, pending the details, to a growing list of high profile assassinations related to the Ukraine war. To review:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2014Darya Dugina was killed in a car bombing in 2022 which was likely meant for her father, prominent political thinker and often dubbed &#8220;Putin ally&#8221;\u00a0Aleksandr Dugin.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014Gen Igor Kirillov died in December 2024 outside of his residence when a bomb planted in a nearby scooter detonated.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014Gen Yaroslav Moskalik, who served as<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>deputy head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was killed in a car bomb attack last April.\u00a0A &#8220;homemade&#8221; explosive device detonated\u00a0under his Volkswagen Golf in a residential neighborhood.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Throughout the course of the war there&#8217;s been a\u00a0string of these high profile assassinations on Russian soil involving car and even cafe bombs.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">A series of car explosions in Moscow<\/p>\n<p>Two vehicles have been blown up in the Russian capital today. In one of the explosions, a 62-year-old lieutenant general was killed.<\/p>\n<p>The blasts occurred in residential districts where Russian military personnel and their families live.
