It now appears that there are some women who are not to be believed&#8230; when the Senate may be in the balance..<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Dr_Christine_Blasey_Ford_during.jpg?itok=TDZtNLgQ\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Dr_Christine_Blasey_Ford_during.jpg?itok=TDZtNLgQ\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"c4348311-41ab-43d4-801c-a54c48c09eb2\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"488\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/Dr_Christine_Blasey_Ford_during.jpg?itok=TDZtNLgQ\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s clear the fix is in.\u201d <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Those words from Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/elizabeth-warren\/\">Elizabeth Warren\u00a0<\/a>(D-Mass.). came with her vote against confirming\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/brett-kavanaugh\/\">Brett Kavanaugh\u00a0<\/a>to the Supreme Court. <strong>Warren was outraged that her fellow senators refused to believe a woman who came forward with a decades-old allegation against Kavanaugh that lacked any corroboration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It now appears that Kavanaugh\u2019s former accusers are making the case that he was treated unjustly at their hands. At least they are now willing to swap \u201cMe Too\u201d for Maine.<\/p>\n<p>Warren\u2019s words were part of a mantra from Democratic members that either you believe women about sexual harassment and assault, or you are enabling abusers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It was almost exactly eight years ago, in July 2018, that President Trump nominated Kavanaugh to fill the seat of retiring Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy.<\/strong> Kavanaugh, who was at first a very uncontroversial nominee, suddenly became the target of a well-financed, well-orchestrated campaign that would continue to resonate in that fall\u2019s election campaigns. At the time, your failure to accept the word of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/christine-blasey-ford\/\">Christine Blasey Ford\u00a0<\/a>that Kavanaugh had assaulted her in high school was just proof that you and the system were sexist.<\/p>\n<p>Long after the Senate confirmed Kavanaugh, the left\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/msmagazine.com\/2019\/10\/04\/brett-kavanaughs-scotus-seat-rests-on-a-mountain-of-misogyny\/\">continued<\/a>\u00a0to claim that his presence on the Supreme Court \u201crests on a mountain of misogyny.\u201d In Ms. Magazine, actress Kathleen Turner reminded people that not believing women was furthering misogyny: \u201cSurvivors who come forward break the rules of silence a sexist society demands, and society expects them to pay a price.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you recall, the lack of evidence led to the Senate Judiciary Committee combing through Kavanaugh\u2019s personal calendars. Denials that such a thing had ever happened, coming from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/courts-judiciary-christine-blasey-ford-d3ed9fa36da4a8efc300fa44c6afffa9\">childhood friends<\/a>, were treated as still more evidence of sexism.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/sheldon-whitehouse-072023.jpg?itok=f1-6terq\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/sheldon-whitehouse-072023.jpg?itok=f1-6terq\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"6bf32d24-be88-426b-b0b5-8b72ec832d00\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"279\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/sheldon-whitehouse-072023.jpg?itok=f1-6terq\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Screenshot\/Judiciary Committee<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>There was Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/sheldon-whitehouse\/\">Sheldon Whitehouse\u00a0<\/a>(D-R.I.), who grilled Kavanaugh about using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2018\/09\/29\/definition-of-devils-triangle-changed-on-wikipedia-to-make-kavanaughs-answer\/\">the term \u201cboofing\u201d<\/a>\u00a0(apparently referring to passing gas) with a high school friend as if it were a confession to a rape.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His inquisitorial barrage was something straight out of the McCarthy period.<\/p>\n<p>Whitehouse expressed disgust that some would not take Ford\u2019s word for it, declaring, <em><strong>\u201cToday I stand with women who are brave enough to come forward with their stories of abuse and mistreatment. They deserve to be heard and credible allegations must be investigated. We must believe survivors, not bully them.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whitehouse is now a major donor and supporter of Graham Platner, the leading Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate from Maine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He dismisses the New York Times accounts from women of Platner\u2019s physically and mentally abusive behavior.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instead of believing these women, he reportedly attacked Lyndsey Fifield, who \u201cbravely\u201d came forward publicly with her story at the request of Times reporters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whitehouse\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/themainemonitor.org\/democrats-platner-headache-not-going-away\/\">is quoted<\/a>\u00a0as saying that he was \u201cunimpressed\u201d by the allegations and the multiple women coming forward \u201cseems like a lot of nothing.\u201d <\/strong>He suggested that he is not prepared to believe a woman if she is a conservative. \u201cI mean, the only one who had anything to say that seemed \u2018unsettling\u2019 was a woman who works for right-wing political operations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>That attack was picked up by others like writer Krystal Ball. She too had denounced those who did not believe Ford in the Kavanaugh controversy. In the past, she claimed at that time, \u201cwomen just didn\u2019t come forward. They knew they wouldn\u2019t be believed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Now she cannot imagine why anyone would believe these women<\/strong>, particularly Fifield. \u201cNYT published uncorroborated accusations against [Platner] of \u2018unsettling\u2019 and \u2018toxic\u2019 behavior that came from a Heritage staffer who previously worked for a conservative org that backs Collins,\u201d she posted online.<\/p>\n<p>Fifield, after sharing stories with the Times of Platner\u2019s alleged abusive behavior, went public to complain that the newspaper had failed to include the corroboration she had provided. She posted that the paper not only failed to include that she has supported Democrats for office,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lyndseyfifield\/status\/2062808679829704815\">but also asked<\/a>, \u201cWhy does it say \u2018nobody could corroborate\u2019 when I offered them sources that COULD corroborate?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cThe Times also failed to include any mention that I DID confide in multiple friends through the years that Graham had been abusive \u2014 long before he was running for office. Those friends confirm they told the Times so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>If true, that is a strikingly different approach from the one taken by the media in reporting on the Kavanaugh allegations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All the familiar faces are now attacking or dismissing these allegations.<\/p>\n<p>That includes Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/ro-khanna\/\">Ro Khanna\u00a0<\/a>(D-Calif.), who campaigned for Platner this week. Khanna had previously pounded his chest in public over the Kavanaugh allegations:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RoKhanna\/status\/1045697389510754313\">\u201cI believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some of the usual suspects are now quiet, and for good reason.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjonathanturley.org%2F2021%2F03%2F01%2Fmob-justice-may-be-poetic-justice-but-cuomo-deserves-due-process%2F&amp;data=05%7C02%7CDFreddoso%40thehill.com%7Cf5844d227f8d440017fc08dec34fbad5%7C9e5488e2e83844f6886cc7608242767e%7C1%7C0%7C639162944378014358%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=%2BOXKjnRvq4NhN8FuLoN72zIm5%2BxS5S%2FfhoZdDY09Cz8%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo<\/a>\u00a0(D) and\u00a0former\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjonathanturley.org%2F2026%2F04%2F14%2Feric-swalwell-and-the-fall-of-a-made-man%2F&amp;data=05%7C02%7CDFreddoso%40thehill.com%7Cf5844d227f8d440017fc08dec34fbad5%7C9e5488e2e83844f6886cc7608242767e%7C1%7C0%7C639162944378024802%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=qxwNNg4t7SoCAZ1eTUmUFV9OlflXWUYRJNCUEvg8zx0%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Rep. Eric Swalwell<\/a>\u00a0(D-Calif.) dismissed Kavanaugh\u2019s claims of innocence but later resigned from their respective offices after accusations of misconduct and harassment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of course, the sexual misconduct and mistreatment of women is not the only controversy surrounding Platner, <\/strong>who has reportedly ridiculed a wounded veteran, dismissed rape victims, and made other comments on his since-deleted Reddit account about Blacks and rural Mainers that would be considered disqualifying for most candidates. He made many other posts that were deeply offensive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/19\/us-news\/maine-senate-dem-candidate-graham-platner-gushed-over-phallic-graffiti-boasted-about-porta-potty-sex-acts-in-reddit-posts\/\">and some that were, frankly, gross<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, figures like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) would not even address the allegations, simply repeating awkwardly, \u201cWe\u2019re going to \u2026 take back the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Back in 2018, Schumer was proclaiming on the Senate floor, \u201cFor too long, when women have made serious allegations of abuse, they have been ignored. That cannot happen in this case.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For her part, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) proclaimed her faith in any woman making such allegations in 2018. Now, she repeats, like Schumer, \u201cI\u2019m very optimistic we\u2019re going to win Maine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cA Man for All Seasons,\u201d there is a scene where Sir Thomas More confronts Richard Rich, a former protege who lied in court to convict him in exchange for being named attorney general of Wales. As Rich passes by, More asks: \u201cFor Wales?
