Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, appears to have relaxed on efforts to name a state highway after President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Since losing his primary race to Attorney General Ken Paxton, it seems like Cornyn has lost interest in his previously suggested renaming of US Highway 287 as \u201cInterstate 47,\u201d after the president. BizPac Review<\/a> reported on the move last month as the race between the men continued to heat up, and Trump had yet to weigh in with his endorsement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am proud to introduce legislation to rename US Highway 287 as Interstate 47 in honor of our 47th President. <\/span>My bill will upgrade one of our nation\u2019s longest highways to a future interstate and save more than $5 BILLION in travel costs, all while honoring the most effective and influential president of our lifetime. Texas is Trump Country & this bill cements [Trump]\u2019s<\/span> legacy by designating nearly 1,800 miles of open road to forever be known as the Trump Interstate,\u201d Cornyn wrote in an X post at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

But now, in a statement to Hearst Newspapers<\/a>, Cornyn says the legislation \u201cmay not make it into my priorities the next seven months.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an X post following his loss, Cornyn shared an \u201cold, but apt fable\u201d about the scorpion and the frog.<\/p>\n

The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies: \u2018I am sorry, but I couldn\u2019t help myself. It\u2019s my character,’\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
