{"id":614024,"date":"2026-06-06T12:06:33","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T12:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=614024"},"modified":"2026-06-06T12:06:33","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T12:06:33","slug":"local-deputy-exchanged-emails-with-failed-trump-assassin-crooks-had-remote-device-on-him-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=614024","title":{"rendered":"Local deputy exchanged emails with failed Trump assassin; Crooks had remote device on him: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/sg-thomas-crooks-yearbook-photo-1200x630.jpg\" class=\"attachment-facebook size-facebook wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/div>\n<p>FBI records obtained by Judicial Watch show that a Butler County sheriff\u2019s deputy received emails from failed Trump assassin Thomas Crooks days before he tried to kill then-GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The records were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/crooks-emails-with-deputy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Judicial Watch<\/a> in July of 2025, almost an exact year after Crooks tried to kill Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>The records include 48 heavily redacted pages containing \u201cinvestigative files, interview summaries, reports, communications, media, and database records, as well as any FBI communications,\u201d according to Judicial Watch.<\/p>\n\n<p>Included among the records are heavily redacted summaries of interviews that were conducted with Butler County Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies on July 16, which was three days after the Butler shooting by Crooks.<\/p>\n<p>In one interview summary, a female deputy said that she checked her email after being contacted by a New York Times reporter, only to find two emails that\u2019d previously been sent to her by Crooks.<\/p>\n<p>The heavily redacted summary states that the deputy was \u201cadvised she checked [SIC] her emails and records and only had two email communications from CROOKS and both emails were in regard to [redacted].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The summary further made sure to note that, aside from the Crooks emails that were identified after his death, the deputy \u201cdid not have any personal interaction with\u201d the deceased suspect.<\/p>\n<p>Another interview summary, this one from July 17, mentioned a Beaver County Emergency Services Unit first responder who said she was directed toward the American Glass Research (AGR) building \u2014 the building on top of which Crooks had opened fire from \u2014 after the shooting began and Crooks was killed by the Secret Service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe utilized a black collapsible ladder to get onto the roof of the AGR facility,\u201d the summary reads. \u201cAt 1823 [6:23 p.m.] [redacted] arrived on roof and did not see any officers down. She was told by others on the roof to evaluate the shooter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe observed that the shooter had injuries not sustainable for life. She checked the shooters pulse on the carotid on the right side and did not find one. She pronounced him dead at 1825 [6:25 p.m.],\u201d the summary continues.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after she pronounced Crooks dead, one of the Washington County SWAT\u00a0officers who\u2019d accompanied her discovered something strange in the deceased suspect\u2019s pocket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Washington County SWAT officer checked the shooter\u2019s right pocket and discovered a gray remote device with numerical push buttons and an antenna and a cell phone,\u201d the summary reads.<\/p>\n<p>Judicial Watch\u2019s findings come only days after two men who were shot but survived Crooks\u2019 shooting filed suit against the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security for gross neglect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJames Copenhaver and David Dutch alleged in separate but similar lawsuits filed Monday in the Western District of Pennsylvania that the U.S. Secret Service and [DHS] were grossly negligent in their failure to secure the event premises in Butler, Pennsylvania,\u201d according to station <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbangor.com\/news\/national\/two-men-shot-at-trumps-butler-rally-sue-federal-government-over-secret-service-preventable-failures\/article_22a1f267-80d1-58ec-9ac6-8576e70273c9.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WVII<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump previously gave the two men a shout-out during an October 2024 rally:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">President Trump acknowledges brave Americans David Dutch and James Copenhaver, who were badly wounded on July 13th.<\/p>\n<p>Butler, PA <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/TrumpRally?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TrumpRally<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VCtsZZ4gf7\">pic.twitter.com\/VCtsZZ4gf7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 AJ Huber (@Huberton) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Huberton\/status\/1842692130566766810?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 5, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cCongressional investigations \u2026 reviewed the USSS\u2019s failures on the day of the assassination attempt, including Senate findings which concluded that the USSS\u2019s failures directly led to the shooting complained of herein, including, but not limited to, that the USSS\u2019s conduct consisted of a \u2018cascade of preventable failures,&#8217;\u201d the lawsuit reads.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit notes that Dutch underwent multiple surgeries after being shot in the abdomen. Copenhaver, meanwhile, was hit in the abdomen and left arm by two bullets. Fragments reportedly remained lodged in his body after the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant United States of America, by and through the [Secret Service], committed egregious failures and failed to abide by and adhere to various protocols, policies and procedures which directly and proximately caused the shooting and\/or allowed it to occur,\u201d the lawsuit continues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe assassination attempt on President Trump\u2019s life was entirely preventable and was caused, in whole or in part, by the failures of the USSS in the days leading up to the event as well as on the day of the assassination attempt,\u201d the suit concludes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/sg-thomas-crooks-yearbook-photo-1200x630.jpg\" title=\"Local deputy exchanged emails with failed Trump assassin; Crooks had remote device on him: report\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FBI records obtained by Judicial Watch show that a Butler County sheriff\u2019s deputy received emails from failed Trump assassin Thomas Crooks days before he tried to kill then-GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump in 2024.
