Failing to accomplish much of anything, Congress can always be counted on to entertain Americans with their dog and pony committee hearings that serve as a tool to batter the opposing party.<\/p>\n

Such was the case this week when the House Ways and Means Committee held a hearing to discuss the Trump administration\u2019s fiscal policies, but Democratic Congresswoman Judy Chu (Calif.) proved to be no match for Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you agree with President Trump that you also do not care about Americans\u2019 financial situations?\u201d Chu asked, taking the president\u2019s words out of context \u2014 her theatrics included a sign being displayed that claimed price increases during the war with Iran.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWho was the president during World War I?\u201d Bessent responded.<\/p>\n

He might as well have asked who was on first, because Chu was stumped.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you refusing to answer my question?\u201d she asked, only to have Bessent press on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d the Democrat, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, finally surrendered.<\/p>\n

Bessent would go on to explain that, much like President Woodrow Wilson had said during World War I, the Trump administration\u2019s actions in Iran are motivated by long-term security.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can tell you, Americans\u2019 financial situation would be devastated if Iran got a nuclear weapon and there was a permanent, permanent shutdown of the flow of energy out of the Middle East,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
