{"id":606904,"date":"2026-05-24T11:35:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T11:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=606904"},"modified":"2026-05-24T11:35:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T11:35:00","slug":"us-approves-homing-all-the-way-killer-missile-support-sale-to-ukraine-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=606904","title":{"rendered":"US Approves &#8220;Homing All The Way Killer&#8221; Missile Support Sale To Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">US Approves &#8220;Homing All The Way Killer&#8221; Missile Support Sale To Ukraine<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>The US State Department has officially cleared a <strong>$108.1 million hardware and sustainment package <\/strong>to keep Ukraine&#8217;s frontline air defenses online, after there&#8217;s not been much in the way of big dollar headlines concerning Washington&#8217;s longtime military support to Kiev of late.<\/p>\n<p>The cash injection targets the maintenance and optimization of the<strong> US-designed HAWK system<\/strong> &#8211; which is <a href=\"https:\/\/runway.airforce.gov.au\/old-mim-23-hawk-missile-doing-damage-putin-ukraine\">short for<\/a>\u00a0the <strong>&#8220;Homing All the Way Killer&#8221; <\/strong>surface-to-air missile system.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/hawksys.jpg?itok=ouglbEbG\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/hawksys.jpg?itok=ouglbEbG\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"a89dd9dc-8bd4-465d-98bc-30396d1885ed\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/hawksys.jpg?itok=ouglbEbG\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>Bild\/Getty Images<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Depending on the exact missile variant deployed, the platform handles tactical interceptions of enemy aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles at operational <strong>ranges spanning 25 to 30 miles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The newly approved sale reportedly does not provide new systems, which would bring a much higher price tag, but is instead focused on\u00a0keeping existing legacy systems operational.<\/p>\n<p>The State Department&#8217;s Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/bureau-of-political-military-affairs\/2026\/05\/ukraine-hawk-missile-system-sustainment\">news release<\/a> detailed a transaction which featured long-term systems support, including erectable mast trailers, major technical modifications, spare parts, consumables, software support, and contractor engineering services &#8211; per a media redout.<\/p>\n<p>The statement sought to provide ongoing justification from the Trump admin&#8217;s Ukraine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/bureau-of-political-military-affairs\/2026\/05\/ukraine-hawk-missile-system-sustainment\">policy<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe,&#8221; it said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has formally notified Congress of the package, and is expected to sail through, after which the contract will be mostly fulfilled by Colorado-based defense contractor Sierra Nevada Corp. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine <strong>originally integrated the HAWK into its arsenal at the tail end of 2022 via a $400 million security assistance package<\/strong>. And last year Washington authorized a foreign military sale dedicated to a HAWK Phase III upgrade and related sustainment.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine could see a new rush by Western partners to supply and update air defense systems across the war-ravaged country, given the <strong>air war is steadily escalating<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Russia earlier this month sent a record 1,500+ drones and missiles against Ukrainian cities in only a 48-hour period.
