{"id":606405,"date":"2026-05-23T12:17:51","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T12:17:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=606405"},"modified":"2026-05-23T12:17:51","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T12:17:51","slug":"dems-in-an-uproar-after-trump-admin-rolls-out-new-process-for-green-cards-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=606405","title":{"rendered":"Dems in an uproar after Trump admin rolls out new process for green cards applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/rf-pexels-green-card-1200x630.jpg\" class=\"attachment-facebook size-facebook wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The Trump administration announced on Friday that, henceforth, temporary visa holders seeking green cards must return to their home countries to finish the process of obtaining green cards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom now on, an alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply, except in extraordinary circumstances,\u201d U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) spokesperson Zach Kahler said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen aliens apply from their home country, it reduces the need to find and remove those who decide to slip into the shadows and remain in the U.S. illegally after being denied residency,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">USCIS is applying long-standing law and prior court decisions to require certain aliens with temporary visas who decide they want to permanently reside in the U.S. to return to their home countries to apply for permanent visas through the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StateDept?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@StateDept<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re returning to the\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/E2AFZkds5m\">pic.twitter.com\/E2AFZkds5m<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 USCIS (@USCIS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USCIS\/status\/2057825189035999517?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This new policy will reportedly improve the system by stressing the fact that tourists to America are expected to only stay temporarily, not settle down and start a life here as if a mere visit guarantees them all that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNonimmigrants, like students, temporary workers, or people on tourist visas, come to the U.S. for a short time and for a specific purpose,\u201d Kahler explained. \u201cOur system is designed for them to leave when their visit is over. Their visit should not function as the first step in the Green Card process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that forcing U.S. consular offices abroad to deal with green card cases will free up \u201climited USCIS resources to focus on processing other cases that fall under its purview, including visas for victims of violent crime and human trafficking, naturalization applications, and other priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats were not pleased with the policy change:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Forcing immigrants pursuing green cards legally to leave behind their homes, their jobs, and in some cases their families betrays the very promise that built this country. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/17UIREDvqI\">https:\/\/t.co\/17UIREDvqI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovKathyHochul\/status\/2057930268867006674?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Among the aggrieved Democrats was California state Sen. Scott Wiener, who strongly supports exposing young children to graphic sexual content and concepts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scale of this horrific change is massive,\u201d he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/sd11.senate.ca.gov\/news\/senator-wiener-blasts-trumps-destructive-order-forcing-green-card-seekers-out-country-beyond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cA huge number of visa holders are potentially impacted, including U visa crime victims, people who marry citizens, folks who will be killed or imprisoned if they return to their countries to apply, startup founders and scientists who came here to build and discover, and many more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He evidently didn\u2019t read\u00a0 the fine print, which clearly states that processing green cards abroad will allow USCIS to allocate more of its resources to helping \u201cvictims of violent crime and human trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Democrats weren\u2019t alone in their grievances. A number of top corporate CEOs also lashed out.<\/p>\n<p>Blake Scholl, the founder and CEO of Boom Supersonic, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bscholl\/status\/2057938911062855747\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote on X<\/a> that while he understands why \u201cwe don\u2019t want people to come to the US to be criminals\u201d and \u201cmooch on welfare,\u201d he doesn\u2019t understand \u201cwhy we make it harder for motivated, ambitious hardworking people to come to the land of opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick Davidov, the founder of Davidovs Venture Collective, wrote on X that this policy change amounts to \u201cthe biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history. Bier, the director of immigration studies at the controversial libertarian Cato Institute think tank, called for new leadership at USCIS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe policy is a radical expansion of DHS\u2019s \u2018quiet quitting\u2019 on legal immigration that has been going on for months,\u201d he wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/dhs-quits-granting-green-cards-almost-entirely\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a>. \u201cNow USCIS\u2019s new memorandum details a plan for mass denials.
