It appears so.\u00a0As we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/military\/pentagon-delegations-beijing-visit-held-over-gargantuan-us-arms-package-taiwan\">reported<\/a> Thursday,\u00a0<strong>China has been actively holding up a proposed visit by Elbridge Colby<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>the Pentagon&#8217;s under-secretary of defense for policy<\/strong>. The move is a transparent effort to pressure President Trump over a\u00a0<strong>looming $14 billion weapons package for Taiwan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Sources familiar with the talks told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/aecf40c9-fb61-4958-ae6b-14a471cad680?syn-25a6b1a6=1\"><em>Financial Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that Beijing signaled it &#8220;cannot approve a visit until Trump decides how he will proceed with the arms package.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Later the same day,\u00a0Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao revealed that the <strong>US is indeed pausing the\u00a0$14BN arms sale in question, though he framed the move as due to the Trump administration&#8217;s war with Iran<\/strong>. He said this was to make sure there&#8217;s plenty of missile supply and interceptors to execute the war, especially in the scenario that a full aerial bombing operation is renewed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/colbyandhegseth.jpg?itok=bSB-ibsI\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/colbyandhegseth.jpg?itok=bSB-ibsI\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"3cd2f889-eadc-4e1c-9d15-d2e15355c6bb\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/colbyandhegseth.jpg?itok=bSB-ibsI\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>via AFP<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Addressing a Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee hearing, Cao sought to assure that the US still has &#8220;plenty\u201d of missiles and interceptors, amid growing concerns from officials.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Right now we\u2019re doing a pause in order to make sure we have the munitions we need for Epic Fury &#8211; which we have plenty,&#8221; Cao <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/5890471-us-arms-sales-taiwan-paused-iran\/\">told<\/a> Sen.\u00a0Mitch McConnell. <strong>&#8220;We\u2019re just making sure we have everything, but then the foreign military sales will continue when the administration deems necessary.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>McConnell pressed Cao further on the arms sale to Taiwanto which the acting Navy chief responded that it would be up to Pete Hegseth, to which the Republican Senator from Kentucky replied, <strong>&#8220;Yeah, that\u2019s what\u2019s really distressing<\/strong>.<strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the administration is trying to frame all of this as more out of caution over Iran war supplies, <em>The Hill<\/em> points out that President Trump had already situated it within dealings with <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/5890471-us-arms-sales-taiwan-paused-iran\/\">Xi and China<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Cao&#8217;s remarks appear to contradict\u00a0President Trump\u2019s\u00a0stated reason for the pause; last week\u00a0he indicated he <strong>may hold off\u00a0on the arms sale to Taiwan as a &#8220;negotiating chip&#8221; with China<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I haven\u2019t approved it yet.
