Charges have been dropped against four anti-ICE protesters in Chicago after the US attorney abruptly dismissed the criminal case.<\/p>\n

\u201cUS Attorney Andrew Boutros announced his office was dropping the charges with prejudice after a closed-door hearing before US District Judge April Perry, during which the Joe Biden-appointed jurist said she was \u2018incredibly shocked\u2019 by the government\u2019s actions,\u201d the New York Post reported.<\/p>\n

The four defendants include former congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh, her campaign aide Andre Martin, Oak Park village trustee Brian Straw, and 45th Ward Democratic committeeperson Michael Rabbitt.<\/p>\n

US District Judge April Perry accused prosecutors of rigging the grand jury to secure an indictment.<\/p>\n

Boutros claimed he was unaware of the misconduct, which included a prosecutor meeting with a grand juror outside proceedings and panelists who refused to vote for an indictment being removed from the pool.<\/p>\n

The top prosecutor did not dispute the claims, but insisted to Perry that \u201cno one acted with the intent to mislead your honor, and I think that they were following your order to give the law,\u201d according to a transcript of the hearing that was released later Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Six \u201cactivists,\u201d known as the \u201cBroadview Six,\u201d were initially charged for having \u201cconspired \u2026 to prevent by force, intimidation, and threat\u201d a federal law enforcement officer from carrying out official duties in a manner seeking \u201cto injure him in his person or property,\u201d the newspaper noted.<\/p>\n

They were indicted after surrounding an ICE agent\u2019s car in the Chicago suburb of Broadview back in September. Boutros called the protesters\u2019 actions \u201cunacceptable in a civilized society.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not by accident that judges never showed such prejudice against Jan. 6 defendants, many of whom entered the U.S. Capital through doors being held open by law enforcement officers.<\/p>\n
