Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd let it be known that \u201cteen takeovers\u201d will not work out well for those involved in his Central Florida county, including neglectful parents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not going to work in Polk County,\u201d Judd explained. \u201cThere\u2019s a whole lot of laws that not only hold juveniles responsible, adults responsible, but parents responsible for your children\u2019s conduct, to include juvenile curfews.\u201d<\/p>\n

A \u201cteen takeover\u201d refers to a large gathering of teenagers who meet up in a public space such as a mall, beach, or city park and create mayhem. These flash-mob-like gatherings are often planned on social media apps like TikTok or Snapchat and result in widespread theft and damage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guarantee you, they start acting a fool, tearing up businesses, fighting in the streets? We\u2019re gonna light them up. All of them,\u201d the sheriff said. \u201cAnd then mommy and daddy, if you don\u2019t hold them accountable personally \u2013 make sure they are home when they need to be \u2014 then we\u2019re gonna come lock you up too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOr charge you civilly, depending on which laws we can plug in,\u201d Judd added. \u201cBut parents, hold your children accountable so we don\u2019t have to. We will hold them accountable if you make us, but then we\u2019re going to hold you accountable too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Polk County has a curfew in place for juveniles \u2014 those under 17 have to be home from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n
