Fox News host Dana Perino called out journalists who put on \u201cperformances for the cameras\u201d during White House briefings.<\/p>\n

And Perino knows a thing or two about the briefing room environment, having served as White House press secretary under President George W. Bush. She criticized the behavior during a discussion on \u201cThe Five\u201d following a press briefing by Vice President JD Vance.<\/p>\n

Perino highlighted how the addition of cameras to the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room created an environment where the press often looks to create confrontation and viral moments rather than ask questions of substance and perform real reporting.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re a regular in the briefing room, it\u2019s annoying when somebody stands up and gives a speech,\u201d Perino noted, referring back to a moment when Vice President JD Vance called out a reporter for delivering a speech disguised as a question during a press conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened? As soon as you brought cameras in, now it\u2019s a performance. And it\u2019s not just a performance at the press secretary position but in the briefing room as well,\u201d she added, noting that reporters looked for a way to \u201cmake the news\u201d by grandstanding to get a clip.<\/p>\n

Vance called out a reporter mid-way through his query on Tuesday, calling it \u201ca hell of a question,\u201d supposedly about President Donald Trump\u2018s stock portfolio.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a doozy,\u201d Vance told Andrew Feinberg, the Independent\u2019s White House correspondent.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore I answer your question, I want to just observe there are different ways to ask a question,\u201d Vance continued. \u201cYou can just ask a question, try and get your answer, or you could do, like, a speech where you say, you know, \u2018Mr. Vice President, every \u2014 you\u2019re a terrible human being, and so is the president, so is the entire Cabinet, and then I\u2019m like, \u2018What\u2019s your question? and then your question is, \u2018How dare you!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
