Reports that a historically black cemetery in Florida was vandalized, with \u201cTrump\u201d and \u201cDeSantis\u201d\u00a0 painted on gravestones, have sparked outrage, while some suggest it\u2019s \u201canother Jussie Smollett case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump shared a news clip from a Tampa, Florida, CBS News affiliate reporting on a cemetery in Palmetto County where some tombstones were seen spray-painted with the names of the president and Florida\u2019s governor.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur ancestors deserve dignity in life and in death. Desecrating sacred burial grounds is hateful, painful, and unacceptable. We must protect Black history and honor the families impacted by this cruelty,\u201d Crump wrote in the caption to his post on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cCracked concrete, broken gravesites, and red spray paint could be seen throughout Old Memphis Cemetery,\u201d Fox 13 reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Manatee County Sheriff\u2019s Office says 17 graves were vandalized at the 122-year-old burial ground, tied to the local Black community,\u201d the outlet noted, adding that the words \u201cTrump\u201d and \u201cRon DeSantis\u201d were \u201cspray-painted in red on multiple tombstones.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the cemetery, the damage was extensive. One thick concrete grave appeared completely cracked open and collapsed,\u201d the report continued. \u201cDetectives believe this incident occurred within the past few weeks. No arrests have been made at this time, as the investigation continues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

\u201cAnyone who engages in \u200bthis disgusting behavior \u2060must be condemned in the harshest terms possible,\u201d White House spokesman Davis Ingle said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Manatee County NAACP president Tracey Washington, who surveyed the damage, said, \u201cI\u2019m outraged and furious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very disturbed,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Despite the evident damage and the official investigation, social media users had doubts about some of the evidence, taking to X to share their thoughts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the most obvious hoax in history,\u201d filmmaker Robby Starbuck posted.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiterally nobody believes these hoaxes anymore but they keep trying anyway. You almost have to respect the commitment to the bit,\u201d author and podcast host Matt Walsh wrote.<\/p>\n
