{"id":603910,"date":"2026-05-19T01:45:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T01:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=603910"},"modified":"2026-05-19T01:45:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T01:45:00","slug":"uae-paid-new-york-firm-millions-to-bury-article-on-ambassadors-links-to-sex-traffickers-report-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=603910","title":{"rendered":"UAE Paid New York Firm Millions To Bury Article On Ambassador&#8217;s Links To Sex Traffickers: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">UAE Paid New York Firm Millions To Bury Article On Ambassador&#8217;s Links To Sex Traffickers: Report<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/articles\/uae-paid-new-york-firm-millions-to-bury-article-on-emirati-ambassadors-links-to-sex-traffickers-report\"><em>Via The Cradle<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The UAE paid New York-based reputation management firm Terakeet <strong>more than $6 million to bury a 2017 report revealing that the Emirati ambassador to Washington, Yousef al-Otaiba, had ties to sex workers and traffickers<\/strong>, according to a<i>\u00a0New York Times<\/i>\u00a0(NYT)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/17\/us\/politics\/epstein-reummler-reputation-management.html\">report<\/a>\u00a0published on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign was designed to push the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2017\/08\/30\/uae-ambassador-yousef-al-otaiba-double-life-prostitutes-sex-work\/\"><i>Intercept<\/i>\u00a0report<\/a>\u00a0out of public sight on Google search results. According to Foreign Agents Registration Act records cited by the paper, Terakeet&#8217;s work for the UAE began in July 2019 and continues today.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/uaeamb.jpg?itok=6x_5QnAa\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/uaeamb.jpg?itok=6x_5QnAa\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"9deee826-6281-4201-a849-fcf5afd66d32\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/uaeamb.jpg?itok=6x_5QnAa\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>via The Intercept<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Much of the account focused on promoting tourism in the UAE, but NYT reported that Terakeet\u2019s work also extended to suppressing the damaging Otaiba report.\u00a0Otaiba declined to comment beyond confirming that Terakeet has worked for the UAE.<\/p>\n<p>The effort was kept off paper, with account manager Kenneth Schiefer moving to Washington for more than a year to work directly with Otaiba at the UAE embassy, avoiding a trail of emails or text messages.<\/p>\n<p>The reputation firm had built a personal website for Otaiba, planted favorable leadership profiles on institutional pages tied to him, and fed those profiles links to UAE-friendly blogs written by Terakeet staff. The firm also used an anonymous Wikipedia editor handle, VentureKit, to create a fake sockpuppet account, Quorum816, and add positive material to Otaiba\u2019s page.\u00a0<strong>Wikipedia reversed the edits and suspended both accounts in 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign succeeded, and by 2023, <strong>the\u00a0<i>Intercept<\/i>\u00a0story had been pushed to page two of Google results<\/strong>. NYT reported that today, <strong>it appears on around page five for most users<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The UAE account formed part of a wider investigation into <strong>Terakeet&#8217;s reputation-cleaning business for powerful figures and major corporations with damaging public records<\/strong>. The firm\u2019s client list has included MetLife, JPMorgan Chase, Oracle, Target, Walmart, Disney, and Bain Capital, according to NYT.<\/p>\n<p>Terakeet later tried to scrub the online image of Goldman Sachs general counsel Kathryn Ruemmler after her relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein became a public liability.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddea The New York Times reports that the UAE paid more than $6 million to the reputation management firm Terakeet between 2020 and 2022 to manipulate Google search results and suppress damaging reporting by Drop Site co-founder Ryan Grim, then at The Intercept, about Emirati\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gHRcCZ0HhC\">pic.twitter.com\/gHRcCZ0HhC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Drop Site (@DropSiteNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DropSiteNews\/status\/2056168391371546758?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The effort intensified after Justice Department files showed Ruemmler&#8217;s name appeared in more than 10,000 Epstein-related documents, including exchanges in which she discussed travel with Epstein, thanked him for lavish gifts, and offered him legal advice.<\/p>\n<p>Terakeet also worked for Vista Equity Partners chief executive Robert F.
