{"id":603634,"date":"2026-05-18T15:40:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T15:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=603634"},"modified":"2026-05-18T15:40:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T15:40:00","slug":"doj-establishes-anti-weaponization-fund-after-trump-drops-10-billion-lawsuit-against-irs-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=603634","title":{"rendered":"DoJ Establishes &#8220;Anti-Weaponization&#8221; Fund After Trump Drops $10 Billion Lawsuit Against IRS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">DoJ Establishes &#8220;Anti-Weaponization&#8221; Fund After Trump Drops $10 Billion Lawsuit Against IRS<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><em><strong>Update (1130ET)<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/em>The DOJ announces that as a part of the settlement agreement in President Donald Trump v. the IRS, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-announces-anti-weaponization-fund\">the Attorney General established <\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-announces-anti-weaponization-fund\">\u201cThe Anti-Weaponization Fund\u201d<\/a> to provide a systematic process to hear and redress claims of others who suffered weaponization and lawfare.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThe machinery of government should never be weaponized against any American, and it is this Department\u2019s intention to make right the wrongs that were previously done while ensuring this never happens again,\u201d said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. \u201cAs part of this settlement, we are setting up a lawful process for victims of lawfare and weaponization to be heard and seek redress.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThe use of government power to target individuals or entities for improper and unlawful political, personal, or ideological reasons should not be tolerated by any Administration,\u201d <\/strong>said Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bloomberg reports that the fund will receive $1.776 billion and will come from the judgment fund, which is a perpetual appropriation allowing DOJ to settle and pay cases.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>fund will have the power to issue formal apologies and monetary relief owed to claimants.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Fund will consist of a Commission of five members appointed by the Attorney General. <strong>One Member will be chosen in consultation with congressional leadership.<\/strong> The President can remove any member, but a replacement must be chosen the same way as the replaced member was selected.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 *\u00a0 *<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-drops-10-billion-lawsuit-against-irs-6027250?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge\"><em>As Tom Ozimek detailed earlier via The Epoch Times,<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em><em><strong>President Trump\u2019s attorneys on Monday filed a court notice voluntarily dismissing his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and the U.S. Treasury Department, in a case that accused the agencies of failing to prevent a former contractor from leaking Trump\u2019s tax returns to the media.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202026-05-18T075615.278.jpg?itok=rEBWK0TN\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202026-05-18T075615.278.jpg?itok=rEBWK0TN\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"632a1259-14da-426b-bf32-fca3d16b6a55\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"333\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/image%20-%202026-05-18T075615.278.jpg?itok=rEBWK0TN\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>No reason was stated in the May 18 motion, which asks the court to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning Trump and the other plaintiffs cannot bring the same claims again in the future. A court filing in April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-irs-enter-settlement-talks-over-10-billion-tax-returns-lawsuit-6013845\">indicated<\/a> that talks were underway to settle the case, with the parties stating at the time that discussions were taking place \u201cproductively to avoid protracted ligitation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s filing said the IRS and Treasury Department had neither filed an answer nor moved for summary judgment, allowing the plaintiffs to dismiss the action unilaterally without requiring court approval or government consent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump, along with two \u200bof his sons and the Trump \u2060family business, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-sues-irs-treasury-department-for-10-billion-over-alleged-tax-return-leaks-5978435\">sued<\/a> the IRS \u200band the Treasury Department in January, accusing both agencies of failing to take mandatory precautions to prevent former IRS contractor Charles \u201cChaz\u201d Littlejohn from illegally obtaining access to their tax records and disclosing that information to The New York Times and ProPublica.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleged that Littlejohn had \u201cstaff-like access\u201d to confidential tax return information and exploited weaknesses in IRS safeguards to obtain and leak the records between 2019 and 2020.<\/p>\n<h2>Lawsuit Details<\/h2>\n<p>The lawsuit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-sues-irs-treasury-department-for-10-billion-over-alleged-tax-return-leaks-5978435\">filed<\/a> in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, sought at least $10 billion in damages and accused the IRS and THE Treasury of violating federal privacy laws governing taxpayer information.<\/p>\n<p>Trump brought the <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.706172\/gov.uscourts.flsd.706172.1.0_3.pdf\">suit<\/a> in his personal capacity, while Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization were also named as plaintiffs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Littlejohn, who at the time was employed by defense contractor Booz Allen Hamilton, was accused of having improperly accessed and disclosed tax information related to Trump and affiliated entities, including business holdings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs claimed Littlejohn\u2019s actions caused \u201creputational and financial harm, public embarrassment, unfairly tarnished their business reputations, portrayed them in a false light, and negatively affected President Trump, and the other plaintiffs\u2019 public standing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit argued that IRS and Treasury safeguards were so inadequate that the agency took roughly 3 years to detect the breach.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDefendants had a duty to safeguard and protect Plaintiffs\u2019 confidential tax returns and related tax return information from such unauthorized inspection and public disclosure,\u201d the complaint alleged, pointing to the need for the agencies to have in place appropriate technical, employee screening, and monitoring systems to prevent Littlejohn\u2019s actions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cDefendants failed to take such mandatory precautions.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Littlejohn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/ex-irs-contractor-who-leaked-trumps-tax-returns-sentenced-to-5-years-in-prison-5575795\">pleaded guilty<\/a> in October 2023 to one count of unauthorized disclosure of tax return information.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said he used broad search parameters to conceal his activities, uploaded stolen data to a private website to avoid IRS monitoring systems, and stored records on personal devices before providing them to media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2024, U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes sentenced Littlejohn to five years in prison, the maximum sentence permitted under the statute.
