Because you can\u2019t surprise billionaires more than once<\/strong>,\u201d Saez <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/07\/us-news\/california-billionaire-tax-author-admits-wealth-grab-could-go-further\/\">said<\/a>. &#8220;Even then, maybe some of them were expecting something like this. So, it\u2019s going to be a debate about this time, you know, <strong>a permanent wealth tax at a low rate that\u2019s going to last for a number of years<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Watch the entire debate below:<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/07\/us-news\/california-billionaire-tax-author-admits-wealth-grab-could-go-further\/\">radical tax<\/a> pushed by the far-left Service Employees International Union\u2013United Healthcare Workers West would slap California residents with a punishing one-time 5% levy on anyone with assets over $1 billion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The proposal has reverberated through Silicon Valley, where several high-profile figures have already established residency elsewhere<\/strong>. Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/even-googles-founders-have-had-enough-california-and-are-saying-adios\">moved<\/a> to Florida, drawn by its more favorable business and tax environment, while Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/real-estate\/luxury-homes\/mark-zuckerburg-indian-creek-miami-florida-38f63db4\">purchased<\/a> a $150 million mansion in Miami.
