Inflation expectations were unchanged at 3.15% for the three-year-ahead horizon and also unchanged at 3.01% at the five-year-ahead horizon in April.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/NY%20fed%20inflation%20exp_0.jpg?itok=x6QOjG6-\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/NY%20fed%20inflation%20exp_0.jpg?itok=x6QOjG6-\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"4647ae15-5794-4d12-8b08-afbdb542713a\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"282\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/NY%20fed%20inflation%20exp_0.jpg?itok=x6QOjG6-\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The jump in year-ahead expectations took place even though 1 year\u00a0<strong>gas inflation expectations tumbled sharply in April to 5.11% from 9.42% in April, <\/strong>which had been\u00a0the\u00a0highest reading since March 2022.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/1%20year%20gas.jpg?itok=kKGUnOGX\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/1%20year%20gas.jpg?itok=kKGUnOGX\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"27601b5f-cbec-4159-b82d-8091c5b412a2\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"281\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/1%20year%20gas.jpg?itok=kKGUnOGX\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other commodity price change expectations also rose, but to a more limited degree:\u00a0food prices are now expected to rise 5.2%, down from 6%; medical costs to rise 9.6%, also a bit lower than the 9.7% in March; the price of a college education to rise 8.8% (down from 9%); and rent prices should drop from 7.1% to 6.0%.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/commodity%20prices_1.jpg?itok=bYracJC8\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/commodity%20prices_1.jpg?itok=bYracJC8\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"fe619373-612a-4489-9131-ab5048fac655\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"299\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/commodity%20prices_1.jpg?itok=bYracJC8\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turning to the labor market, sentiment has continued to deteriorate fast with respondents saying that the mean probability the US unemployment rate will be higher next year rose another 0.4% (after the 3.6% jump a month ago) to 43.9%; highest reading since April 2025<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/mean%20prob%20unemp_0.jpg?itok=iYV-5nzm\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/mean%20prob%20unemp_0.jpg?itok=iYV-5nzm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"a7b95f66-aad5-42e2-aed8-2b77bd494292\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"297\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/mean%20prob%20unemp_0.jpg?itok=iYV-5nzm\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the other end, median <strong>one-year-ahead earnings growth expectations rose by 0.3% to 2.7% in March,\u00a0<\/strong>tied for the highest since April 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/earnings%20growth%20ny%20fed_0.jpg?itok=zpuuZbOM\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/earnings%20growth%20ny%20fed_0.jpg?itok=zpuuZbOM\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"b842b40a-7410-4eb3-a923-cfd98364488f\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"282\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/earnings%20growth%20ny%20fed_0.jpg?itok=zpuuZbOM\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More bad news: <strong>the mean perceived probability of losing one\u2019s job in the next 12 months increased again, this time by 0.2% to 14.6%, <\/strong>tied with the\u00a0series\u2019 12-month trailing average of 14.6%. The mean probability of leaving one\u2019s job voluntarily, or the expected quit rate, in the next 12 months declined by 0.1% to 18.2%.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/prob%20losing%20job_0.jpg?itok=E3IFA2UU\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/prob%20losing%20job_0.jpg?itok=E3IFA2UU\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"394f9c0c-e7cf-4c4c-afa8-83d748e92e4d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"297\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/prob%20losing%20job_0.jpg?itok=E3IFA2UU\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A silver lining: the mean perceived probability of finding a job if one\u2019s current job was increased modestly by 0.1% to 46.0%, while remaining below its 12-month trailing average of 47.5%. The increase was broad-based across age, education, and income groups.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/prob%20finding%20a%20job%202.jpg?itok=841HTfyd\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/prob%20finding%20a%20job%202.jpg?itok=841HTfyd\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"5675020e-47af-45f3-9226-f335b8c020d7\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"296\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/prob%20finding%20a%20job%202.jpg?itok=841HTfyd\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perceptions about households\u2019 current financial situations also deteriorated compared to a year ago, with a larger share of households reporting a worse financial situation and a smaller share reporting a better financial situation. Year-ahead expectations about households\u2019 financial situations also worsened, <strong>with the share of households expecting a worse financial situation at its highest level since April 2025,\u00a0<\/strong>and a smaller share of households expecting a better financial situation in one year from now.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/better%20worse%20off.jpg?itok=w3WLPKqL\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/better%20worse%20off.jpg?itok=w3WLPKqL\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"abc1497d-88dc-4b36-82b3-41de3629731d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"303\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/better%20worse%20off.jpg?itok=w3WLPKqL\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perceptions of credit access compared to a year ago also deteriorated, with a higher share of households reporting it is harder to get credit and a smaller share of households reporting it is easier to get credit. Expectations for future credit availability deteriorated, with the net share of respondents expecting it will be harder to obtain credit in the year ahead increasing.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/credit%20easier%20harder.jpg?itok=-YLtVkTG\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/credit%20easier%20harder.jpg?itok=-YLtVkTG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"c02bfb8f-6b00-4452-bd5b-8c4f434a0e4d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"297\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/credit%20easier%20harder.jpg?itok=-YLtVkTG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span>There was a glimmer of good news when it comes to household debt: the average perceived probability of missing a minimum debt payment over the next three months decreased by 0.9% to 11.4% the lowest reading in more than two years and\u00a0below the 12-month trailing average of 13.2%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/nib%20debt%20payment.jpg?itok=BJkuLSr-\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/nib%20debt%20payment.jpg?itok=BJkuLSr-\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"03509f83-4054-4646-9770-b9271a13a25c\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"283\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/nib%20debt%20payment.jpg?itok=BJkuLSr-\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But the most concerning data was that expectations for household income dropped again, for a 5th straight months, sliding to just 2.8%, the lowest since Oct 2025&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/household%20income%20growth%20exp_0.jpg?itok=Wo2ej7Tk\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/household%20income%20growth%20exp_0.jpg?itok=Wo2ej7Tk\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"f4a0edbf-e63a-4a92-8652-165810fb871c\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"279\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/household%20income%20growth%20exp_0.jpg?itok=Wo2ej7Tk\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;
