Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, is backing calls for an audit of the Michigan Democratic Party\u2019s April 19 convention results.<\/p>\n

In Michigan, nominations for a few statewide positions are chosen during a Democratic convention and not through a traditional Democratic primary.<\/p>\n

During the April 19 convention, Michigan State University Board of Trustees candidate Sen. Sylvia Santana lost narrowly.<\/p>\n

Following the convention, Santana appealed her loss in a filing, arguing that the state\u2019s Democratic Party hadn\u2019t properly enforced a rule requiring voters to vote in person.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 53-page filing from Santana\u2019s campaign contended there were \u2018material errors\u2019 in the convention\u2019s vote-counting process and requested an audit of all the results<\/strong> by an outside firm,\u201d according to The Detroit News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Including the results for the attorney general and the secretary of state, both of which are also determined by convention.<\/p>\n

Fast-forward to this Monday, when Nessel joined Santana\u2019s call for an audit of the convention results.<\/p>\n

\u201cI learned in the days immediately following the convention that the Election Buddy app did not correctly attribute my votes or my congressional district, and I immediately notified the impacted candidates and the state party chair,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n

In her statement, however, Nessel made sure to differentiate the convention\u2019s voting system from the state\u2019s voting system, arguing that the latter has been functioning just fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose who traffic in election conspiracies will seek any and every opportunity to undermine public confidence in our elections, and while an audit is warranted in this circumstance, these results have no bearing on the veracity of state-run elections,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The calls for an audit are also backed by Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, who lost her convention bid to be the nominee for attorney general to Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter reviewing the results of the MDP Endorsement Convention, it became clear that votes were incorrectly recorded, people voted who were not onsite, and some votes were not recorded at all,\u201d she said in a statement published to Facebook.<\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly support Senator Santana\u2019s request for an independent audit, and urge my Democratic colleagues across the state to support it as well. It is critical that every voter and every campaign have confidence in the vote,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

In a statement to Fox News<\/a>, the Michigan Democratic Party said that candidates like McDonald, among others, had until the end of May 4 to submit appeals.<\/p>\n

\u201cPursuant to our rules and bylaws, appeals are reviewed through an independent process conducted by an Appeals Committee,\u201d a spokesperson said. \u201cThe Committee will review submitted appeals and determine next steps. We are committed to following the appeals process and ensuring it is fair and independent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Republicans, meanwhile, have seized on the Democratic Party\u2019s internal complaints.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocrats are turning on Democrats, asking for an INDEPENDENT AUDIT OF THE ELECTION,\u201d the Michigan Republican Party wrote<\/a> in a tweet. \u201cThis comes after it was revealed that HUNDREDS of ineligible voters took part in the Michigan Democrat Party\u2019s endorsement convention in April.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLosing candidates are starting to take legal action against the Democrat Party, claiming the election were STOLEN from them after an investigation revealed that hundreds of ineligible voters took part in their recent endorsement convention. Democrats can\u2019t even secure their own internal elections. What a mess!\u201d the tweet continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cMichigan, you just witnessed a stark contrast,\u201d the man in the video above said. \u201cThe Republican convention ran seamlessly, no drama, strong candidates finished on time, but the Democrat crash and burn disaster has now resulted in the Democrat State Senator Sylvia Santana and Attorney General Dana Nessel demanding an audit of the party\u2019s disaster. Why? Because no one trusts the results.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just cannot make this stuff up. It\u2019s not just mere hypocrisy; it is a full-blown credibility crisis. If the Democrats can\u2019t run a fair election behind closed doors, how can anyone trust them to put one together for the public? Rules matter, process matters, integrity matters, and the Democrats fail all three,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
