Elton John famously sang \u201cSaturday Night\u2019s Alright for Fighting\u201d and \u2014 as so often is the case \u2014 a mob opposed to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took that literally outside Bushwick\u2019s Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. It was there that federal law enforcement faced obstruction from a violent mob of agitators hell-bent on defending an illegal alien from Nigeria who himself allegedly \u201cbecame physically combative, attempting to punch and elbow\u201d arresting officers.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, TMZ shared a video obtained from FreedomNews.TV outside the medical center with suggestive language lacking detail about ICE agents who \u201cdragged a man out of a hospital.\u201d While corporate media reports leaned into fearmongering about operations in \u201csensitive locations\u201d like hospitals, schools, or churches, a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) set the record straight on Saturday\u2019s arrest of Chidozie Wilson Okeke and the subsequent clash with a mob.<\/p>\n

Detailing the arrest as a targeted enforcement operation for the Nigerian with previous arrests for assault and criminal drug possession, DHS indicated how, \u201cOkeke refused to comply with officers\u2019 lawful commands to exit the vehicle and weaponized his vehicle to attempt to hit ICE officers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last night, @ICEgov<\/a> conducted a targeted enforcement operation in Brooklyn that resulted in the arrest of Chidozie Wilson Okeke, a criminal illegal alien from Nigeria with previous arrests for ASSAULT AND CRIMINAL DRUG POSSESSION.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkeke became physically combative, attempting to punch and elbow ICE officers. Our officers followed their training and used the minimum amount of force necessary to make the arrest. After his arrest, Okeke requested medical assistance, so ICE officers escorted him to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center for a medical evaluation,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cOkeke remained non-compliant during the medical evaluation, throwing himself to the floor and screaming.. The medical staff cleared him.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was during the evaluation that \u201ca significant crowd of anti-ICE agitators gathered at the hospital and became violent. The protestors damaged several ICE vehicles and assaulted ICE officers, resulting in minor injuries to the officers. Assaulting law enforcement is a felony and crime\u2026 Officers from the New York Police Department responded to the scene and arrested several rioters.\u201d<\/p>\n

ABC News reported<\/a> that of nine people taken into custody, eight were arrested with charges of criminal mischief, obstructing governmental administration, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon arrival, officers observed numerous individuals acting in a disorderly manner, obstructing vehicular traffic, and blocking emergency entrances and exits,\u201d a statement from the NYPD to ABC News explained. \u201cOne protestor began punching and eventually broke the ICE agent\u2019s rear window.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the New York Post<\/a>, agitators from New Hampshire and Wisconsin were included among those arrested defending Okeke, who was\u00a0said to have entered the United States during President Joe Biden\u2019s administration, overstaying a tourist visa from 2023 that expired in February 2024.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, politicians like Brooklyn Council Member Sandy Nurse (D), who is pushing legislation to further obstruct federal law enforcement by shoring up New York City\u2019s sanctuary stance, drummed up the appearance of \u201cdirect coordination between ICE and the NYPD\u201d ahead of planned participation with Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso (D), other elected officials and activist groups in an \u201cICE OUT OF NYC\u201d protest in Bushwick on Monday.<\/p>\n
